Marked fire extinguisher in case of emergency at a commercial property You can't predict a disaster, but you can plan for it! Call SERVPRO of South Fleming Island to set up your FREE emergency Ready Plan! 904-290-4040!

If you own or manage an office building or other type of commercial space, fire safety and emergency preparedness should be a priority. Being prepared with a well-thought-out emergency plan can not only protect your property but potentially save the lives of the people on the property in case of an emergency. Keep reading below to see if your building is prepared should disaster strike!

Have Functioning Fire Extinguishers Readily Available

You want to ensure that you have a suitable number of fire extinguishers readily available throughout the building, clearly labeled, and accessible. Taking additional time to try and locate an extinguisher during an emergency can create a more dangerous situation and lead to more damage. Your fire extinguishers should be tested on a regular basis to make sure that they are functioning properly, as well as any fire suppressant or sprinkler system.

Check Your Smoke Detectors and Fire Alarms

Your smoke detector and fire alarm systems should be inspected regularly to ensure that they are functioning properly in case of an emergency situation. Also, confirm that your building has a clearly marked exit plan so that occupants know to safely exit the building.

Implement Safety Training

An important step for safety preparedness is safety training for both homeowners and business owners. Including a fire safety training course in your workplace will help the occupants to know exactly what they do should an emergency of any kind occurs such as a gas leak, a fire, severe weather, or flooding. You can also contact our local Clay County Fire Rescue for information available to help implement safety procedures in your place of business.

Emergency Exits

Having illuminated emergency exit signs can help direct occupants out of the building in case of an emergency. Make sure that the emergency exit is not obstructed and easily accessible at all times.

Have an Evacuation Plan

Have your commercial building inspected for any potential fire code issues or potential safety hazards. From there conduct regular fire drills and educate employees on where emergency exits, fire extinguishers are and how to properly use them. Another useful tool would be setting up your free SERVPRO Emergency Ready Plan. This no-cost assessment of your facility can help you get prepared for any issue that may come along, and if restoration work is required, ensure that the process is able to start as quickly as possible, keeping damages and costs down.

SERVPRO of South Fleming Island/ North Bradford County is here to help 24/7/365 should disaster strike! Call us at 904-290-4040 to dispatch a crew or get more information on how we can help make it "Like it never even happened."

Water Damage Equipment Makes a Difference

3/24/2022 (Permalink)

Here is a picture of a water loss that had soaked into the carpet of the home. We are open 24 hours for 365 days a year! Call us today at (904) 429-4457!

SERVPRO of South Fleming Island was called for an emergency water damage job late last night. SERVPRO arrived quickly on the scene, with specialized tools for water detection and water extraction equipment. It is best to call at the earliest time of need as emergency mitigation services help minimize additional property damages.

Why trust SERVPRO

Clay County can rely on SERVPRO of South Fleming Island to arrive prepared and professional to their home and business. The right tool for the water job is vital to timely mitigation and these water damage professionals thoroughly understand how to dry a structure and personal property effectively.

Psychrometrics

Psychrometry is the study of the air and its properties. Our SERVPRO of South Fleming Island professionals measure for temperature, humidity, vapor pressure and dew points. These measurements help evaluate air conditions in the structure to create the proper atmosphere for more efficient drying.

We use the Right Equipment

Our SERVPRO professionals use moisture sensors to detect moisture in carpets, baseboards, and walls. Moisture meters are used on various materials that determine actual moisture content. Clay County crews also have specialized extraction equipment which remove water from floors and upholstery. This is the most effective method of removing moisture. Air movers are used to enhance evaporation at the surface level, thereby reducing drying time. Dehumidification machinery lowers humidity, which in turn increases the rate of evaporation. It pulls in the moist air and then discharges dry air. This air acts like a sponge and absorbs moisture from wet materials. Deodorization equipment is used to neutralize odor causing particles.

In our business, you need us fast! Fire damage, water damage, and mold remediation waits for no one. SERVPRO of South Fleming Island has a 24 hour rapid emergency response team all year round. Call us today (904) 429-4457!

How To Prepare Your Home For Spring Weather

3/14/2022 (Permalink)

Major storms can take place year-round and cause damages, but unpredictable spring weather can bring hazards of its own. It's important to keep an eye on our local Clay County weather forecast so you can be prepared for the potentially dangerous weather. Preparing in advance can minimize the risk of water damage and other costly problems. Here are a few steps that you can take to help prepare for spring weather.

How to prepare your Home for Severe Weather

Clean Out your Gutters

Gutters and downspouts channel rainwater away from the foundation and roof of your home. If your gutters are clogged with debris, the water will back up and be diverted indoors. This issue can result in significant water damage, especially if the moisture is undetected. Check your gutters regularly and make sure they are kept clear of leaves and twigs that can inhibit water from flowing freely.

Keep Trees Healthy

Trees may enhance your curb appeal and provide privacy, but they require proper maintenance. Schedule a professional tree trimming service once a year to get rid of weekend or dead tree branches that could easily snap off in a storm. If not, the limbs can come crashing down and damage your roof, siding, and windows.

Secure Outdoor Gear

High winds can pick up items and send them flying through the air, potentially causing serious damage to your home's exterior. If the weather report predicts a storm, make sure any loose objects like patio furniture, potted plates, and garden tools are securely tied down or brought inside.

Reinforce Doors and Windows

If doors and windows aren't properly sealed, they can provide an opening to allow excess moisture and debris into your Clay County home. Prevent avoidable water damage by replacing caulking and weather-stripping whenever they become worn. You could also look into investing in storm shutters to keep windows from breaking or blowing off due to high winds and flying debris.

If you need to schedule water damage restoration services, SERVPRO of South Fleming Island/ North Bradford County is here to make it "Like it never even happened." We are locally owned and operated and use the latest drying equipment and techniques to help customers throughout Clay County. Our team will work as quickly as possible to make your living space safe and comfortable after a storm. Call 904-290-4040 to schedule an appointment, or visit our website to learn more.

February is Responsible Pet Owners Month! Learn How To Incorporate Pets Into Your Emergency Plans!

1/31/2022 (Permalink)

Pet alert window decal with information to aid in rescue Having a pet alert decal in your window can help firefighters in the event your pets are still in the home!

Did you know that February is Responsible Pet Owners Month? As pet owners, we never want to imagine a situation where our furbabies are in danger, but according to the American Red Cross, an estimated 500,000 pets are affected by fires annually and about 1,000 home fires are accidents caused by pets each year. While we cannot predict when a disaster is going to strike, we can plan and prepare for it.
The most loving thing we can do is plan ahead just in case, and include our pets in family emergency plans. By following the steps below, you can begin to prepare for an emergency situation.

Take Safety Precautions:

  • Check that you have multiple smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors in your home, they are functioning correctly and that you change the batteries twice a year.

  • Make sure your pet is wearing a collar with proper identification and to date license in case you get separated during an emergency

Protection if Your Not Home:

We would hope that should an emergency situation occur, we would be home to get our pets to safety, but you should take precautions in case you're not home and your pet is alone when a fire starts.
If possible, keep your pet near an exit so they have a better chance of getting out, use a pet gate to keep them in a designated area by an exit
Keep collars on and leashes nearby
Get a pet fire sticker to hang in your front window to alert firefighters that you have pets inside. The sticker will have a list of important information like the number of pets, type of pets, and contact information

Plan Your Escape Route:

Your fire safety plan should start with identifying all of the possible exits and then planning your evacuation route. Note things like if the front door is blocked, which window could be used as an exit and then have a designated meeting spot outside the home that is a safe distance from the fire.
A few things to note when planning for a pet is knowing your pet's hideaway spots.

  • Do they have a favorite spot or somewhere they retreat to in chaos? Start there.

  • Keep a pet emergency kit handy with a leash, carrier, food for your pet, and any needed medications, but ensure it is not blocking an exit.

  • Designate a family member to be in charge of evacuating with the pets

  • Practice fire drills with your pet

We love our pets like family, but it is important to remember that we shouldn't put our lives, or family members' lives in danger during a fire. If for whatever reason you are unable to quickly locate your pet during a fire and the area is unsafe, you must evaluate immediately. Once you are safely out of the house, do not go back in for any reason, notify the fire department that there are pets inside and let the professionals handle them.

Plan a Place to Stay:

Unfortunately, if your home suffers from fire damage there is a chance that your home may be uninhabitable for a while. Plan ahead to ensure that you have a safe, pet-friendly place for your pet to stay in the meantime, it could be a friend, family member, neighbor, or pet-friendly hotel.

Prevent your Pets from Starting Fires:

A big part of your pet fire safety plan should be eliminating and preparing for potential fire safety risks.

  • If your home has a fireplace, consider getting a pet gate to ensure they keep a safe distance.

  • Candles: curious puppies and playful kittens can easily knock over a candle and not only injure themselves, but also start a fire. Never leave a lit candle unattended with a pet, even for a minute. Consider switching to battery-operated, flameless candles.

  • Stovetops and ovens: Pet's accidentally turning stove knobs is the leading cause of pet-generated house fires. If your pet can reach it, they can touch it so consider protective covers to gating off the kitchen.

  • Electrical cords: pets are playful and sometimes they may think that an electrical cord or extension cord is a chew toy, secure all wires and cords.

Unfortunately, even if you do routinely practice fire safety and prevention techniques with your pets, fires still happen, resulting in significant water and fire damage. When that happens, you can count on your local SERVPRO of South Fleming Island/ North Bradford County to mitigate fire and water damage losses.

How To Prevent Fires While Cooking

10/6/2021 (Permalink)

Cooking is the number one cause of house fires. Unsafe cooking can cause fire damage, which is what happened to this kitchen. Cooking is the number one cause of house fires. Unsafe cooking can cause fire damage, which is what happened to this kitchen.

As Fire Prevention Week comes to an end, SERVPRO of South Fleming Island/ North Bradford County wants to remind you to stay safe while cooking, which is the number one cause of house fires. Cooking fires can happen to anyone, but there are ways to avoid them that you can make part of your everyday cooking practices.

First off, you should never leave the cooktop unattended while cooking - no matter what. If you must leave, either turn the stove top off or find someone to watch over the cooktop in your absence.

As far as clothing goes, short, close-fitting, or rolled sleeves are best so that your clothes are out of the way and don’t catch anything that could potentially burn the fabric and start a fire.

It is also extremely important to have an extinguisher nearby in case of any emergencies so that you can try to put the fire out. Remember to call 911 first for help because you never know how fast a fire can grow and get out of hand. The faster the response the better.

Another tip that may not come to mind right away is to not store anything in your oven. It may seem like a convenient place to store things, like a meal you want out of the way, a desert, or maybe even cook books, but this is a terrible idea. These items are easily forgotten and when the oven is turned on again and preheating, these items can catch on fire. It is much better to be safe than sorry.

It is important that your cooking areas are kept clean of flammable materials like splattered grease, food wrappers, or oven mitts. When these items are in unpredictable and inconsistent places, they may end up too close to a burner and catch on fire. A cookbook may be placed on a burner that you thought was off or had cooled down but hadn’t and start a fire. Whether you believe the stovetop is on or off, it is good practice to not use it as a resting place for anything.

Treat fires appropriately. This means that it is important to know what content is burning. If it is food burning, water is sufficient to put it out. However, if it is grease that is burning, water may only turn to steam and become a hazard. For that reason, grease fires should be smothered with a lid, not treated with water. Microwave fires should be responded to by turning the microwave off and waiting for the flames to die out completely. Opening the microwave door will only allow more oxygen to fuel the flame.

It’s Fire Prevention Week! SERVPRO of South Fleming Island/ North Bradford County wants to help you prevent fires from happening in the first place with some quick tips.

  • Test your smoke alarms regularly. Most of the time this can be done by simply pressing the test button on the alarm. The volume at which it beats will help you determine whether or not you need to change the batteries; if the beep is weak and quiet, you should change it immediately. Neglecting to change the batteries of smoke alarms can cause tragedies.
  • Inspect all your heating sources & keep them clean. Heating sources that are unclean or not functioning correctly can trigger a fire as well. Air filters should be cleaned regularly and space heaters need to be positioned in danger-free zones. Food and crumbs must be kept away form burners, as well as dish towels, cookbooks, curtains, and oven mitts.
  • Don't leave your kitchen while cooking. A fire can start in a matter of seconds, so leaving something cooking on the stove or baking in the oven is not a good idea. If you must leave, either turn the stove or oven off or find someone who can watch your masterpiece in the meantime. In addition to this, do not store items inside the oven. They may become forgotten and cause a fire when started again.
  • Aside from cooking, it is important to maintain your dryer by cleaning out the lint trap every load and getting it checked yearly. Another place to check for lint and miscellaneous items is behind the dryer. Items can collect and heat up behind there and become a potential threat.
  • Make sure all the cords in your home are not frayed or chewed so as to not start an electrical fire. Make sure they are placed in areas where they are less likely to overheat, and avoid putting the cord underneath rugs or where the cord is snug between items.
  • Be safe with flammable items. Make sure you blow out your candles before leaving the house or going to bed, and only light them on hard, steady surfaces raised from the floor where they are less likely to be knocked over. Fireplaces are another key to keep a close watch on. The sparks that fly could start a fire, so never leave the room unattended in which the fireplace is lit.
  • Always have fire extinguishers close by in case of emergencies.

How Do You Know If You Have Water Damage In Your Clay County Home?

9/29/2021 (Permalink)

infrared camera showing wet area in home with visible mold on the walls A small issue can quickly turn into a large disaster. Don't wait, call SERVPRO of South Fleming Island at the first sign of water damage 904-290-4040

One of the most common problems that property owners can sustain is water damage. Broken and leaky pipes are 2nd in both frequency and severity in regards to annual claims resulting in water damage, with hurricanes/severe storms being #1. Although water damage claims have been growing faster than other components of homeowners insurance, many of these losses could have actually been prevented.

Most water damage occurs because of leaks that were gradual, slow leaks eventually turned into a bigger problem. Unfortunately, many homeowners ignore small leaks or damage until it becomes a bigger issue, or they believe that they can take care of it themselves, which with minimal water damage may be true... but with water damage, there are often more damages than the human eye can see. If a pipe breaks within the walls or water travels through or into walls, you will be unable to see the extent of the loss and dry it out without specialty equipment.

So What Are the Signs of Water Damage in Your Home?

When trying to prevent water damage, it helps to know what to look for to ensure that all preventable issues can be addressed. Check for the following signs of water damage in your home:

1. Dark Spots or Water Stains

Keep your eye out for dark spots and discoloration on the ceiling, interior, and exterior walls of your home. Darker spots usually mean that the water damage is fresh and could be still active, while yellowish or chalky stains are an indication of older damage.

2. Peeling, Cracking, or Bubbling

If the paint or wallpaper in your home is peeling or bubbling this is typically an indication that the inside of the wall is wet. When larger areas get wet and the wat sits, these areas begin to expand and that is when you will see cracks appear.

3. Pooling or Puddles of Water

Continuous drips and leaks can leave puddles of water on your floor. If you notice pools of water and it comes back after you have cleaned it up, it is a good sign that you have an ongoing, active leak.

4. Hearing Water

You might not always be able to see the water when a water loss occurs, but you may be able to hear it. Listen for drips or sounds of rushing water that go beyond the sounds that your usual pipes and systems make.

5. Higher Water Bills

Your water bill might vary month to month, but have you had a drastic increase in your bill and can't account for the change? You may have an active leak.

6. Damp or Musty Odors

Have you noticed a damp smell or musty odor in your home? This is often another sign of water damage and is usually the strongest around the area where the water damage occurred.

7. Mold

Mold can grow on almost any surface in your home that remains wet or in an area with excess moisture within 48-72 hours.

If you think that your South Fleming Island/ North Bradford County home has a leak or signs of water damage, your local SERVPRO of South Fleming Island/ North Bradford County is here to help. Do You Know What Category of Water Damage You Are Experiencing?

8/6/2021 (Permalink)

Graphic depicting the 3 categories of a water loss At SERVPRO of South Fleming Island/ North Bradford County, we are ready to respond to your emergency water loss 24/7/365!

Earlier this week we received a call from a local property manager regarding sewage backup in one of their condominium communities. The backup affected 2 bathrooms and spread to the connected bedrooms in both of the affected 2 neighboring units. We were able to send an emergency crew to begin the extraction so the demo and drying process could begin. Water damage is one of the most common damages that occur in residential and commercial properties, so there are many things to keep in mind when it comes to water damage, one being the category of water damage. Since this was a sewage loss, this job was categorized as a category 3 loss. Keep reading below to uncover what the different categories of water are, and what you need to know about them.

The IICRC defines the 3 categories of water as:

Category 1: Sanitary "clean water"

Category 2: Significantly contaminated "grey water"

Category 3: Grossly contaminated "black water"

The different categories of water are classified by the course of the water damage and what potential contaminates it may have come into contact with. Understanding the types of water damage and the unique water removal or water cleanup solutions that are needed to successfully clean up the job is critical in preventing secondary damages in the future.

Category 1: Sanitary "Clean Water"

The IICRC defines a category 1 water loss as water that originates from a sanitary water source and does not pose a substantial risk. Examples of category 1 water losses are rainwater, water supply lines, toilet tanks, and toilet bowls without contaminates. Since this water is considered "clean", we can typically restore and salvage affected materials like drywall, carpet and carpet pads, and hardwood flooring.

Category 2: Significantly Contaminated "Grey Water"

Category 2 water is defined as water that contains significant contamination that has the potential to cause discomfort or sickness if consumed. Examples of a category 2 loss could be, water from a broken fish tank/ aquarium, flooding from a dishwasher or washing machine. When a category 2 loss occurs we make sure to remove wet carpet padding and use anti-microbial to disinfect affected materials.

Category 3: Grossly Contaminated "Black Water"

A category 3 water loss comes from water that is grossly contaminated and can contain pathogenic, toxigenic, and other harmful agents that could cause significant reactions from consumption or contact. Examples of a category 3 loss could be sewage backups, flooding from rivers/streams, wind-driven water from heavy storms like hurricanes and tropical storms. When a category 3 loss occurs, affected materials like drywall, carpet and carpet padding, insulation, and hardwood flooring should be removed as well as using an anti-microbial spray to disinfect.

Water Damage Timeline: Why You Must Act ASAP

7/19/2021 (Permalink)

Water damage timeline graphic, flooded living room showing damages as time progresses The longer the damage sits, the worse it gets! Don't hesitate, SERVPRO of South Fleming Island/ North Bradford County is here to help!

At SERVPRO of South Fleming Island/ North Bradford County, we can not stress enough how important it is to address any water damage loss in your Clay and North Bradford County home or business as quickly as possible.

Each water damage loss should be treated as an emergency due to the fact that the longer the water sits, the more damage it can cause as water is especially invasive and can quickly spread through your home quickly. The longer that the damage sits, the worse that the damage gets. The following timeline shows how important fast water damage cleanup is and why you should act fast.

Immediately After Water Damage

Within minutes of a water loss, water will begin to spread quickly, saturating whatever it comes into contact with. Porous materials like drywall, wood, insulation, fabric/upholstery will begin to absorb water.

24 Hours After Water Damage

After the water has been sitting for 24 hours, upholstery and carpet will become heavy, and sodden from water saturation, drywall, insulation, and other structural materials will begin to swell and bow. Wood maybe begin to warp, colors and dyes will begin to bleed from fabrics, paper goods will no longer be salvageable and mold growth will become a concern.

48 Hours After Water Damage

After 48 hours, mold spores can continue to spread throughout the property and may even begin to be visible on surfaces. Wood will continue to warp and bend due to the excess moisture. Metal objects will begin to corrode and rust, and drywall, insulation, carpet padding, and other textile goods will begin to show major signs of deterioration and may no longer be salvageable.

One Week After Water Damage

One week after a water loss occurs, restoration costs and procedures will be significantly increased because now structural damages are a major concern. A structural rebuild will be necessary in order to restore the property to preloss condition as cracking, buckling, breaking, peeling, bending and other signs of determination will likely be visible on the walls, floors, and ceilings. Few if any items in the exposed area will be salvable, most will have sustained too much damage by this point and will need to be disposed of.  Mold is now a problem of its own, as it has likely spread throughout the property, not just the area that sustained water damage.

SERVPRO of South Fleming Island/ North Bradford County is here to help and ready to respond to emergency water damage situations 24/7/365 because we know how important it is that when water damage occurs, that it gets cleaned up as soon as possible! Our IICRC trained technicians have the expertise and equipment to act quickly to restore your property to preloss condition. Don't wait, call us today at 904-290-4040

What To Do After a Storm Has Passed

7/6/2021 (Permalink)

Even after the hurricane or storm has passed, its aftermath remains. During seasonal storms, high-speed winds remove materials off of your home causing flying debris, and heavy rainstorms could lead to flooding and water damage. Before leaving the safety and doing anything, you want to ensure that the storm has fully passed. Since the eye of the storm is calm and can span over miles, wait for official confirmation that the storm has fully passed before leaving your safe, interior room.

After bad weather subsides, you'll want to bring your home back to its former condition as soon as possible. Regardless of the type of damage your property is facing, time is of the essence. The quicker the restoration process is able to begin, the quicker your home will be brought back to normal, lessening the impact to both you and your wallet. Below are a few tasks you can perform immediately to begin the storm damage restoration process:

What Should You Do After a Storm?

1. Check Your Home for Damage

After the storm has passed, you should check your home and property to learn the extent of the damage, as not all of it will be immediately obvious. Possible damages could be:

  • Holes in the roof
  • Split seams
  • Missing, broken, or dented shingles
  • Granules collecting in gutters or downspouts
  • Leaks in your roof or ceiling
  • Dents on vents, gutters, or flashing
  • Cracked windows or broken window panes

2. Contact Your Insurer

Homeowners' insurance policies typically cover repair costs for fallen trees, wind, hail, and water damage caused by storms, so call your insurer to let them know exactly what happened. You'll need to provide the policy number so be sure to have the paperwork on hand. Once you have filed a claim, an insurance adjuster will be scheduled to come out and visit the property and assess the scope of the damage.

3. Take Pictures of the Damage

If possible, go through the property and take pictures of any broken windows, standing water, and any other issues that have been caused by the storm. Make note of any missing siding, toppled trees, and any other exterior damage. Include images of the home prior to the storm damages for comparison, this could also be used to calculate how much money you will need for the storm damage restoration.

3. Secure the Property

Emergency service providers can put tarps on the roof to prevent water infiltration and fallen trees from your property. Board up windows to prevent water and pests from getting inside, and remove any debris in the yard that could be potential tripping hazards.

4. Avoid Additional Home Damage Where Possible

When it is time to start fixing your home, there may be some areas that you can handle yourself, if you can properly repair some damage you should begin immediately as you also seek professional help for the additional areas. Immediate repairs can help to prevent more damage, so acting quickly is key.

SERVPRO of South Fleming Island/ North Bradford County is here to help and ready to respond to your storm damage restoration needs. If your Clay County or surrounding Bradford County area home is damaged during a storm, our highly trained technicians will return your home to pre-storm condition and make it "Like it never even happened." Preparing Your Pets For a Hurricane

6/15/2021 (Permalink)

Woman holding dog We love our furry friends like family, so when you're creating your emergency plan this hurricane season, be sure to include a plan for your pets!

While you may need storm damage restoration services for your home after a major storm hits, you should also make a plan for the safety of your family during the storm, which includes our furry friends. June is National Pet Preparedness Month, which makes it the perfect time to develop an emergency plan for your beloved pet, especially now that we are in hurricane season. Below are a few steps that you can take to ensure that your pets are prepared.

How to Protect Pets From Inclement Weather

1. Secure Identification

There is a chance that a cat or dog could become lost in the mayhem of a hurricane, so having proper identification to ensure that they are returned home safely and as quickly as possible is critical. All pets must be microchipped so that vets and shelters have the ability to scan the animal and quickly uncover ownership information. Along with the microchip, your pets should also be wearing a collar that has your dog's name, your name, and cell phone number. Having your contact information is useful to whoever finds your pet, they can return them without having to go to a vet clinic or animal shelter to have the chip scanned.

2. Establish an Evacuation Plan

When a major storm is set to hit, all animals should be removed from the home prior. Not all emergency shelters allow pets so it is best to call hotels or other types of lodging to ask about their pet policies. Sometimes in a storm situation, establishments may waive the ban on pets due to the emergency, or accept them for an additional fee. If you can not find a suitable solution, contact friends or family away from the storm zone and ask if they would allow the pets to stay with them. It is best to have multiple options in case your initial plans fall through. Remember if you are in an evacuation zone and leaving, your pet should be as well.

3. Create an Emergency Kit

If you and your family do need to evacuate, it is crucial to have an emergency kit prepared. Emergency kits guarantee that you have the necessary items you need to survive until you can return home. Pet kits must include food, freshwater, any medications, leashes, and carriers. If there's space, include toys and bedding to make your animal more comfortable. Have emergency supplies assembled and ready to go well before the hurricane is due to arrive.

If when it is safe to return home, you find that your home had experienced the effects of a storm, SERVPRO of South Fleming Island/ North Bradford County is here to help. 3 Types of Severe Weather That Affect Florida

6/8/2021 (Permalink)

Florida home in the middle of a severe storm with lighting SERVPRO of South Fleming Island/ North Bradford County wants to help keep you, your family and your property safe during the extreme Florida weather.

While Florida is well known for its gorgeous weather, Florida also experiences extreme conditions at certain points during the year. These weather events can lead to extensive water damage, microbial growth, and other issues at your home or business that will require bringing in remediation experts to restore the area.

What Are Some Common Extreme Weather Conditions?

1. Thunderstorms

These storms occur when hot, moist air flows upward and mixes with the cooler air above. Due to Florida being located between the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico, it is a prime area for thunder and lighting. If lightning hits your home or another structure, it could ignite the building materials and cause a fire. Even a seemingly minor fire can significantly impact a property because the smoke and soot contain toxic chemicals, stain the building and reduce indoor air quality.

2. Hurricanes

A normal hurricane season results in about 12 storms hitting Florida, with 13 reaching land in 2020. Experts predict this year's hurricane season, which will run from June 1st to November, to be similarly active. Hurricanes bring strong winds and increase the risk of flooding, which can lead to significant water damage if the flood enters your home. This can also lead to potential microbial growth in the home.

3. Extreme Heat

While many people love the high temperatures, that heat can also pose a health risk without proper safety practices. Extreme temperatures increase the risk of dehydration, especially in young children and older adults. Drinking plenty of water and wearing loose clothing will prevent you from becoming overheated when spending time outside. Additionally, try to schedule outdoor activities for later in the day after the sun has reached its peak. When temperatures are at their highest, remain indoors with air conditioning.

If your home has been damaged by water, flooding, or a fire caused by extreme Florida weather, SERVPRO of South Fleming Island/ North Bradford County is here to help. As local remediation experts, we have been providing Clay County and surrounding areas with fire, mold, and water remediation services since 2019. To schedule a free estimate, call us at 904-290-4040. But we know that emergencies don't stick to normal business hours, that is why our team is available 24/7/365 for emergencies.

Summer Grill Safety

5/27/2021 (Permalink)

Family grilling, children playing away from grill SERVPRO of South Fleming Island/ North Bradford County is here to provide you with grill safety tips so you can grill safely all summer!

As the summer season approaches, it is important to note that the number of grill-related fires will begin to increase, peaking in July. Charcoal and gas grill barbeques are involved in more than 5,000 fires each year. To go along with that, grilling accidents resulted in almost 20,000 trips to the hospital annually.

SERVPRO of South Fleming Island/ North Bradford County is here to provide some steps and tips that families can use to protect their homes from fire damage and family from injuries. All while still enjoying a cookout and the home grilling that we all love!

Before Grilling:

  1. Clean the grill racks and grease trays. When using a gas grill, check the gas tank hose for leaks.
  2. When setting up your grill, choose a firm, level spot that is safe and far enough away from your home, coolers, children, pets, and guests.
  3. Always grill outside, never in your garage or near low-hanging trees and branches.
  4. Be sure to prepare the grill carefully. When using a charcoal grill, use a charcoal chimney with newspaper, charcoal starter fluid, or an electric charcoal starter.
  5. For gas grills- open the lid before turning the grill on. If you smell gas after the grill is lit, do not try to move it, get away from the grill and call the fire department

While Grilling:

  1. Establish a safe zone. Keep children and pets at least 3 feet away from the grill while you are cooking, as well as after you serve the food due to the fact that grill surfaces may remain hot for an hour or more.
  2. Use clean, long-handled grill utensils that are in good condition. Avoid wearing loose-fitting, hanging clothing, and always wear flame-retardant mitts.
  3. Be sure to keep the flame under control, manage flareups by adjusting the grill height, spreading out the coals, or using the grill controls.
  4. Keep baking soda within reach in case of grease fires. Also, have a fire extinguisher nearby and watch for blowing embers.
  5. When you are done grilling, never attempt to move a hot grill.

Homefires can be devastating both finically and emotionally, especially due to the fact that smoke and water damage from putting out the fire, often amplify the destruction to both the structure and the contents.

At SERVPRO of South Fleming Island/ North Bradford County, we are trained professionals that will help you recover from devastating fire & water damage if you do suffer a structure fire, but we believe that prevention is better than a cure. However, we know that accidents happen. That is why our team of highly trained professionals are ready to respond to your emergency 24/7/365!

5 Tips to Prepare for Hurricane Season

5/10/2021 (Permalink)

Florida home during a heavy rainstorm SERVPRO of South Fleming Island/ North Bradford County is here to help you and your family this 2021 hurricane season!

With hurricane season around the corner, it is best to be prepared. Although you can not prevent all storm and water damage to your home, you can organize emergency plans in advance. The following guide explains how you can reduce damage to your property and protect your family.

How to Get Ready for Hurricane Season

1. Create an Emergency Kit

If you do not already have an emergency kit, now is the time to put one together. This kit should include extra batteries, flashlights, a first aid kit, and a weather radio. Include a supply of non-perishable food, water, and prescription medication just in case. If you already have a kit, inspect and replace any expired items.

2. Review Evacuation Plans

If you have to leave your home during a storm, set up a travel plan. Review your local authority's evacuation routes and take note of any updates. Have a plan for evacuating your pets, and store important documents in an easily accessible location so that you can leave quickly. Do a practice run with the family to identify any issues and correct them before an actual emergency occurs.

3. Protect Windows

Installing storm shutters will protect your windows during a fierce hurricane. However, covering the glass with plywood can also offer a layer of protection against broken glass and water damage. If you do not have this material on hand, consider purchasing some in advance.

4. Clean Your Yard

Remove anything from your yard that could fall or knock into your home due to high winds. For example, you can remove dead tree branches or limbs that hang over your roof. Store any loose items like patio furniture or lawn equipment in a safe place. As a result, you will protect your family and property from harm.

5. Review Insurance Policies

Before hurricane season, review your homeowner's insurance policy to confirm you have adequate coverage for storm and water damage. If a storm is in the forecast, take videos or pictures of your belongings. This precaution will help you file an insurance claim so that you can prove the weather harmed your items.

If a hurricane does strike, SERVPRO of South Fleming Island/ North Bradford County is here to help. We have been providing restoration services to homeowners and businesses throughout Clay County since 2019. Our IICRC certified team can restore damage from fire, water, and mold.

What To Do When You Find Mold, Until Help Arrives!

4/28/2021 (Permalink)

Professional SERVPRO mold mitigation and remediation chemicals and equipment We are specialists in mold remediation and mitigation services!

Have you found mold in your home or property recently? Mold can damage your property value and potentially cause health effects so it is important to remediate the mold before it spreads. Here are several steps you can take to get your home ready for us to come professionally remediate the mold.

Remove Your Possessions

The first step you can take is to remove any items from the mold-infested area. Sort through what you want to save and what you want to dispose of, then thoroughly clean the surfaces of any items you want to keep. Afterward, put the items in a safe place until the mold remediation is completed.

Block off the Area

It is important to isolate the mold-infested area to prevent it from spreading further throughout the property. You can tape plastic sheets over the air vents and doorway near the infected until a remediation team can come to set up professional containments. This will prevent the mold from seeping into the air vents and spreading.

Do NOT Ventilate

While opening windows and turning on fans near the moldy space might seem like a good idea, it can actually cause more harm than good and cause the mold spores to spread.

Leave the Area Alone

We understand that mold can be quite unsightly, and you may be tempted to attempt to remove it with bleach or other cleaning products. However, doing this may actually cause the mold spores to become airborne and spread to other areas of your home. To prevent further issues, avoid touching the area and allow the mold remediation experts at SERVPRO of South Fleming Island/ North Bradford County to take care of everything, beginning to end.

By following these tips, you can safely get your home ready for mold remediation. Keep reading for more reasons as to why you should call in a professional as soon as possible when you experience flooding, major leaks, or any form of water damage.

Why You Should Seek Water Damage Restoration as Quickly as Possible

1. Prevent Mold Development

After your home has been exposed to excess water due to flooding or leaks, microbial growth can begin to develop within 48-72 hours, which could potentially cause health effects. Mold develops on porous surfaces such as drywall, ceiling tiles, upholstery, carpet and carpet padding, and also wood materials. These items need to be thoroughly dried to reduced the chance of microbial growth due to excess moisture.

2. Preserve as Much Property as Possible

One of the main goals of water damage restoration is preservation. Professionals use special tools and techniques, including pumping and vacuuming out excess water, then drying and dehumidifying any absorbent surfaces. With this approach, remediation teams will aim to preserve as much of your property as possible. However, some items, such as shelves, clothing, ductwork, and drapery, may need to be replaced, depending on the level of damage present.

3. Minimize Future Issues

Prompt response and dry-out services help reduce the odds of experiencing future issues. When water is absorbed, it can weaken wood structures and walls, potentially leading to cracks in the concrete foundation. Removing the water and excess moisture from your home and surfaces will help prevent widespread damage from occurring in your home later down the line.

5 Common Questions Asked About Property Restoration Insurance Claims

4/26/2021 (Permalink)

Whether your home is damaged by a flood or a fire, getting things back to the way they were can take time—and money.

However, when you have the support of your home insurance policy and a trusted restoration company, you can save yourself from the heavy stress and high expenses that are associated with water and fire damage repairs. Since navigating restoration insurance claims can be complex, below is a guide that answers a few common questions homeowners have about the process.

5 FAQs About Using Home Insurance for Water & Fire Damage Repairs

Will Water & Fire Damage Restoration Be Covered By My Policy?

Technically, most home insurance providers cover restoration work related to fire and water damage. However, this damage typically has to be connected to an event that is covered by your policy—also known as a “peril.” For instance, plumbing emergencies and electrical fires may be acceptable perils, but floods may require additional coverage.

Will Putting Off Repairs Affect My Insurance Policy?

In some cases, fire and water damage may seem minor enough to put off repairs. But, if more damage occurs as a result of negligence, your insurance company may not cover those future claims. By staying proactive and making repairs as soon as possible, you can protect yourself against denied claims down the road.

Should I Call My Insurance Company Before the Restoration Company?

If you are experiencing an emergency loss, it is often best to call emergency restoration professionals before reaching out to your insurance provider, as time is critical in preventing further damage. These professionals will fully document the damage, making it easier to file an accurate claim. They will also provide proactive care to keep your home safe, as well as prevent further damage.

Can I Choose My Own Restoration Provider?

If you do call your insurance provider first, they may recommend a company for your home repairs. While it’s perfectly acceptable to use these references, it is not required. In fact, it is your right as a policyholder to choose who repairs your property.

When Should I Pay Out-of-Pocket?

If your insurance deductible is higher than the cost of the repairs, it is generally best to pay out-of-pocket. In these instances, you would have been required to pay the whole price anyway without any coverage from your provider. However, many water and fire restoration jobs will exceed the cost of the deductible.

In a perfect world, homeowners would always be able to avoid these situations—but accidents still happen.

Fortunately, it’s easy to stay prepared when you have SERVPRO of South Fleming Island/ North Bradford County at your side. Providing everything from mold remediation, fire damage repairs, and a variety of professional deep cleaning services like biohazard and crime scene clean-up, we will ensure that you receive fast, expert care.

3 Tips to Prepare Your Clay County Business For Natural Disasters

4/19/2021 (Permalink)

Pouring rain and text that says 24/7 with SERVPRO logo Don't let storm damage affect your business more than it has to. Call the professionals at SERVPRO of South Fleming Island/ North Bradford County!

You need the April showers to bring May flowers, but you don't need the water & storm damage that can come with all the Spring rain.

Natural disasters such as hurricanes and flooding can threaten the safety of your business and employees. That’s why it’s essential to have a plan in place that can help you minimize damage and ensure your workers are protected. Below are a few tips for developing a protocol plan, including when to contact emergency cleaning services.

How to Prepare Your Company for a Natural Disaster

1. Identify the Risks

As a business owner, you must prepare for disasters, both large and small, natural or manmade. The first step in doing this is to identify situations that pose a risk. For instance, in Florida, hurricanes are a top threat. Other risks might include fires, tornadoes, or power outages. If your business is considered high-risk, such as a laboratory that contains hazardous materials, identifying the potential problems will help you prepare accordingly with an evacuation and disaster recovery plan.

2. Rehearse Evacuation Drills

Once you know which threats to prepare for, conduct drills with all of your employees so they know what to do in case of an emergency. This should include evacuating the building in the event of a fire, or taking shelter if there’s a tornado warning. Employees should know where all of the emergency exits are located, as well as what rooms or closets are away from windows. If you work with hazardous chemicals, have a list of personnel that will be responsible for turning off flames and other ignition sources and shutting off all electrical equipment. Follow up the drills with a discussion so you can go over any potential challenges that may affect the success of the evacuation. Some issues might include keeping employees organized while evacuating and keeping track of personnel.

3. Make a Recovery Plan

Each day your business is down following a natural disaster is a blow to your bottom line. That’s why it’s essential to write a recovery plan. Identify the essential systems that your business needs to function so you know which issues must be addressed first. For instance, emergency cleaning services such as fire restoration, mold remediation, and water extraction will ensure your environment is safe and comfortable so that employees can get back to work as soon as possible.

If your business endures damage during a natural disaster, turn to the team at SERVPRO of South Fleming Island/ North Bradford County. 3 Benefits of Spring-Cleaning your office or Business

4/16/2021 (Permalink)

Wipe down and deep cleaning of office materials You have enough work to do, let SERVPRO of South Fleming Island/ North Bradford County handle your commercial spring cleaning needs!

Over time, dirt and grime can accumulate in even the most carefully maintained offices or businesses. A spring cleanup, including carpet cleaning and dusting, will help your business maintain a positive impression and make your office a healthier place to work. Check out the reasons below for more information on why you should invest in professional cleaning services this spring.

Why Does Your Commercial Space Need Spring-Cleaning?

1. Improved Air Quality

Mold developing in the carpets releases spores, which could potentially cause health effects. Dust and germs can also travel through air ducts, spreading strange odors and diseases that may affect your employees, customers, and visitors. Professional carpet cleaning and duct inspections will improve the air quality throughout your building. These services can reduce your employees' sick days by minimizing germs and irritants, making your entire business more productive.

2. Durable Furnishings

Trapped dirt in the fibers of your carpet and furnishings can gradually wear down the material. Your AC system can also be affected by dust, restricting airflow and enforcing the equipment to work harder than necessary. The additional degradation will eventually cause frequent breakdowns and premature failure. Duct and carpet cleaning will minimize your maintenance costs and help you get the most out of your investments.

3. Increased Efficiency

Disorganized stockrooms and filing cabinets will lead to wasted time looking for products or paperwork, which can be frustrating for your employees. Spring cleaning is also a chance to reorganize your storage systems, making it easier for your team to find what they need at a moment's notice. You can also take the time to create more efficient spaces by putting supplies within easy reach.

If your business or office space is due for spring cleaning, call the professionals at SERVPRO of South Fleming Island/ North Bradford County. Our team of certified technicians have the tools and the training to handle everything from carpet cleaning to water stain removal for customers throughout Clay County, FL, and surrounding areas. Spring brings warmer weather, longer days, and a much-anticipated break from winter. But, it also brings a very real threat of severe weather.

Spring weather can be unpredictable at best and downright dangerous at worst. When you give some thought to the types of hazards a spring storm could produce, you can begin to plan for the safety of your family as well as your home or business.

Here are some of the ways a spring storm might damage your home or business:

1. Water damage caused by foundation washouts from storms, sump pumps that fail during power outages, torrential downpours, or faulty air conditioning condensation lines during a heatwave.

2. Fire damage caused by the use of alternate emergency heat sources, sprinkler systems that fail, downed power lines, or environmental conditions leading to structure fires.

3. Wind damage caused by fallen trees and limbs, damage to siding and roofs, and downed power lines. Of course, most of these hazards don’t happen alone. For example, tornadoes and thunderstorms put property owners at risk for water, fire, and wind damage. It’s important to understand which hazards might affect your property and your family, and then take the proper steps to prepare.

Resources like the U.S Government's "Ready" program are available for more information and help you get prepared, as well as the free SERVPRO Ready app. Home and business owners can use this SERVPRO Ready app to store essential contact and property information, then access it in seconds with a mobile device when disaster strikes.

4 Tips to Prepare Your Home for a Big Storm

3/30/2021 (Permalink)

Major storms can take place year-round and cause damage, especially in areas prone to hurricanes. Therefore, it is important to keep an eye on your local weather forecast and ensure your home is protected. Preparing in advance can minimize the risk of water damage and other costly problems. Here are a few steps you should take.

How to Prepare Your Home for Severe Weather

1. Clear Out the Gutters
Gutters and downspouts channel rainwater away from your home's roof and foundation. If they are clogged with debris, the water will back up and be diverted indoors. This issue can result in significant water damage, especially if the moisture is undetected. Check your gutters regularly and make sure they're kept clear of leaves and twigs that can inhibit water from flowing freely.

2. Keep Trees Healthy
Trees enhance your curb appeal and provide privacy, but they also require proper maintenance. Schedule professional tree trimming services once a year to get rid of weakened or dead branches that could easily snap off in a storm. Otherwise, the limbs can come crashing down and damage your roof, siding, and windows.

3. Secure Outdoor Gear
High winds can pick up items and send them flying through the air, which can cause serious damage to your home's exterior. If the weather report predicts a storm, make sure any loose objects are securely tied down or brought inside. For example, look for patio furniture, potted plants, and garden tools.

4. Reinforce Doors & Windows
If doors and windows aren't properly sealed, they can provide openings that can allow moisture and debris into your home. Prevent water damage by replacing caulking and weather-stripping whenever they become worn. You can also invest in storm shutters to keep windows from blowing off and avoid breaking glass.

If you need to schedule water damage restoration services, SERVPRO of South Fleming Island/ North Bradford County is here to make it "Like it never even happened." Our team will work as quickly as possible to make your living space safe and comfortable after a storm. Call 904-290-4040 to schedule an appointment, or visit our website to learn more.

3 Signs You Should Schedule a Professional Carpet Cleaning

3/17/2021 (Permalink)

Young boy laying on a white carpet with a golden retriever dog SERVPRO of South Fleming Island is the preferred vendor for many local businesses and residents for all carpet cleaning needs!

Carpet is the preferred flooring material for many homeowners, as it helps create a warm and comfortable living environment. However, over time, the fibers can become embedded with dirt, dust, and allergens. While frequent vacuuming is an important part of carpet maintenance, it’s not enough to remove contaminants that have settled. Therefore, regular carpet cleanings are also necessary to keep floors tidy. Here are some telltale signs you should call a professional cleaner.

What Signs Indicate You Need a Carpet Cleaning?

1. Stains

As dirt gets tracked indoors, carpets can appear discolored. Without a deep cleaning every other year, it’s common to see areas with heavy foot traffic accumulate grime. Also, pet accidents and spills can leave unsightly stains that change a carpet's appearance. Professional cleaners have special tools and products that work to get rid of stubborn stains.

2. Allergy Symptoms

When carpets trap dust mites, pet hair, and dander, they can reduce your indoor air quality. These particles often trigger allergy symptoms, including coughing, sneezing, and itchy eyes. Household members that have respiratory conditions might also find it difficult to breathe. If you’re consistently feeling sick, a professional carpet cleaning will help you enjoy fresher air.

3. Unpleasant Odors

Carpet fibers can absorb smells that won’t go away no matter how much you vacuum. Unpleasant odors can come from spills, pets, and smoke. You may be able to hide any stenches temporarily with an air freshener. However, scheduling a professional cleaning and deodorizing treatment is the only way to find a permanent solution.

If you've noticed these signs, turn to SERVPRO of South Fleming Island/ North Bradford County. Our trained and experienced technicians provide effective and affordable carpet cleaning solutions for homes throughout St. Augustine, FL. We also offer mold remediation, water extraction, and fire damage repair services. Call 904-290-4040 to schedule a free estimate, or visit the website to learn more.

Home after fire damage getting reconstruction SERVPRO of South Fleming Island is your one stop shop for all your restoration and reconstruction needs. Call 904-290-4040 for a free estimate!

A home fire is an unexpected event that can turn your world upside down. However, fire restoration professionals can help you rebuild your property. There are a few essential steps that can quickly get you back into your home. Review the following tips to make the process easier as you recover.

How Should You Restore Your Home After Fire Damage?

1. Perform a Damage & Safety Assessment

Document all the damage to your home for your insurance carrier. They’ll use this information to determine what they’ll cover. However, leave the inspection to fire restoration professionals. Parts of the structure may be compromised or smoldering, and they’ll know how to move around safely. They’ll take pictures of the damage and formulate a plan to remove salvageable items and debris.

2. Handle Damage Control

Have fire restoration professionals remove soot that could spread to untouched areas of the home. They’ll then clean any spilled water from the plumbing. This action will prevent mold growth, rotting wood framing, or rusting metal hardware. Standing water may also erode your home’s foundation, leading to widespread collapse, so they’ll dry it and cover exposed areas with moisture and vapor barriers.

3. Schedule Construction

Schedule reconstruction as soon as the debris is cleared. SERVPRO of South Fleming Island/ North Bradford County is your one stop shop for all your restoration and reconstruction needs. Our reconstruction professionals will seal any cracks in the foundation and reinforce the wood structure with more lumber. Once they’re confident that this frame will support the home, they’ll hang new drywall, repair roofing, and lay new flooring. Finally, plumbing, electrical, and refinishing services will restore your home to its original condition so that you and your family can move in.

Water Damage is more than a minor inconvenience. When moisture seeps into your home, it can lead to serious consequences that extend beyond obvious surface problems. Many issues may require professional water extraction and remediation to keep your living space safe and sanitary. Here are three common side effects that may develop.

1. Mold Formation

It takes a day or two for mold to grow and thrive on a damp surface. Once it proliferates, it can easily grow on floors, drywall, wallpaper, tiles, insulation, and fabrics, leaving your home vulnerable to damage. Mold can cause health effects.

2. Pest Outbreaks

Insects and pests are especially attracted to moist environments. Mosquitoes, carpenter ants, cockroaches, and beetles are drawn to water. Some can even cause greater damage in a home by gnawing on soft, damaged wood and weakening compromised areas. Quick attention to the problem can help reduce the likelihood of outbreaks.

3. Structural Problems

If water lingers in a space, your home will experience some loss of structural integrity. For example, moisture can seep deeply into drywall and cause visible stains. It can also soften the wall's material and cause it to collapse. Walls can swell and become warped, while others may develop small air bubbles. Extensive damage can even affect critical supportive structures, like load-bearing walls and beams.

Coping with water damage on your own can be difficult. If you need help, contact SERVPRO of South Fleming Island / North Bradford County. These experienced mold remediation and water extraction professionals specialize in emergency cleaning services. Visit them online to learn more about water damage repair, or call (904) 290-4040 to ask any questions.

5 Ways to Protect Your Business From Flood Damage

1/29/2021 (Permalink)

Street flooding SERVPRO of South Fleming Island/North Bradford County is here to help when you need us most. We specialize in making it "Like it never even happened."

Storms can easily bring floodwaters to your doorstep. However, floods can also occur due to a minor plumbing leak in your building. It's vital to prepare for these possibilities and take steps to prevent water damage. Use the following guide to learn more about how you can keep your business safe.

How to Protect Your Commercial Building From Water Damage

1. Maintain Your Plumbing

Plumbing leaks, clogs, and backups can quickly flood your business, so regular maintenance is essential. Have your plumbing inspected by a professional at least once a year to ensure you don't have leaks, problems with valves, or corrosion forming. Follow best practices for maintaining your plumbing, including only flushing waste and toilet paper and not putting oils or grease down the drain.

2. Landscape with Native Plants

Surround your commercial building with native plants and vegetation to reduce soil erosion. If there's a leak in your outdoor plumbing, the soil will be able to absorb the water. If there's a flood, the soil will cause the water to recede faster, reducing your building's exposure to water.

3. Invest in Water Barriers

Sandbags and tarps can help divert water away from your building. Keep a supply on hand in case of an emergency. Watertight shields over windows and doors can also keep floodwaters out. These barriers should be installed on any openings located at or below the Base Flood Level (BFE) for your building. You can identify your building's BFE using a FEMA flood map

4. Use Water-Resistant Materials

Use water-resistant flooring, furnishings, insulation, and wall coverings in your commercial building. These materials can typically withstand exposure to water for up to 72 hours before sustaining damage. This timeframe will allow you to schedule emergency cleaning services.

5. Seal Cracks

Water will find any entry point, including through small cracks. Regularly inspect your building for cracks in the walls, windows, and foundation. Seal any openings with a waterproof sealant. However, if there is significant deterioration in these areas, they may need to be reconstructed.

If your business has sustained water damage from a flood or plumbing problem, turn to SERVPRO of South Fleming Island / North Bradford County. These trusted restoration and cleaning experts have provided fast and reliable restoration services since 1967. Mold can damage carpeting and cause health effects. Therefore, it's important to understand the common signs of mold growth so that you can take preventative action immediately. Here’s a closer look at the main indications of this issue and how carpet cleaning can salvage household flooring.

How Can You Tell if Mold Is Growing in Your Carpet?

1. Bad Smell

You might notice a musty smell, or guests may comment on a strange odor. If you spend most of your time indoors, you might not notice the smell because you've become accustomed to it. However, it’s important to check underneath the carpets once you've detected a problem.

2. Damp Carpet

A wet carpet can result from recent spills or flooding and should be cleaned as soon as possible. Allowing it to sit could lead to bacteria and fungal growth. If leakage has occurred for an extended period, you will probably find mold underneath the carpet and should seek carpet cleaning services.

3. Discoloration

Mold can be difficult to detect if it’s grown deep into the carpet, but advanced growth can appear in various colors. Families might notice green, red, or black patches on the carpet. Inspect the bottom of the carpet and the floor underneath for any signs of these spots. Carpet cleaning services may be able to resolve the problem. However, if the damage is extensive, the carpet needs to be replaced immediately.

If you’re experiencing water damage in your home from recent storms and flooding, turn to SERVPRO of South Fleming Island / North Bradford County. This restoration company offers water damage restoration, mold remediation, and fire damage repair to commercial and residential properties. Each technician is certified and fully trained to handle any problem. Call their team at (904) 290-4040 or visit their website for more information.

Tips for Staying Healthy as COVID-19 and Flu Season Continue

1/26/2021 (Permalink)

SERVPRO technician cleaning an office in PPE SERVPRO of South Fleming Island/ North Bradford County urges you to follow cleaning and disinfecting protocols to keep you and your family safe!

For the past year, the COVID-19 pandemic has challenged business owners and homeowners to adapt to new ways of life and working, without risking exposure to the highly contagious virus. Now with flu season being upon us, it is even more important to stay vigilant about following cleaning and disinfecting protocols to keep you, and your family safe and healthy.

Scientists at the CDC believe that both COVID-19 and the seasonal flu are primarily spread by droplets that are produced when infected people cough, sneeze or talk. Scientists also believe that individuals can contract the flu and COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has virus particles on it and then touching their mouth, nose, or eyes as well. While the CDC continues to recommend getting a yearly flu vaccine to aid in protection from flu viruses, experts also emphasize the important of cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched surfaces. Cleaning and disinfecting surfaces frequently such as tables, door handles, light switches, countertops, phones, sinks, toilets and keyboards can help mitigate the potential spread from these contaminated surfaces.

To help control the spread of these viruses and limit exposure, the CDC recommends that you wash your hands frequently for 60 seconds at a time, or when washing your hands is not an option, using hand sanitizer that is at least 60% alcohol. As well as keeping your hands away from your face and eyes, and wearing a mask or even gloves to protect others.

For daily effective cleaning at home or at work, start by washing down surfaces with soap and water, then follow up with a disinfectant.

For business owners who require deeper cleaning techniques or want to offer peace of mind to employees and customers, SERVPRO of South Fleming Island/ North Bradford County offers their Certified: SERVPRO Cleaned program. SERVPRO vehicle's SERVPRO is here to help with any property damage restoration services! No job is too big or too small! We do them all. 904-290-4040

Have you ever heard the cliche, "You don't get a second chance to make a good first impression!"

That's a very profound and true statement.  It reminds me of a story that one of my sales managers used to tell about Ivory soap.  The story went like this:  A young mother with several children in tow was at one of the large warehouse stores buying things in bulk for her family.  She wanted to get a large package of Ivory soap and asked the store associate if he could help her get a package off of the shelf and put it into her shopping cart.  The store associate proceeded to grab a package that had a rip in the outside packaging of the bulk package, so the customer asked the associate if he could grab a different package for her.  The store associate explained to the customer that all of the bars of soap were still in the package, even though it was ripped, and that she was still getting the same amount of merchandise.

The customer insisted that the store associate get her a different package that did not have the rip in it, because she did not want a package that was ripped, or one that looked like it had already been opened, regardless of the fact that the contents of the package were the same as all the rest.

So, what could this possibly have to do with SERVPRO of South Fleming Island / North Bradford County?  I'll tell you:

Recently SERVPRO received a call for a water emergency at a community where 6 condominiums had been affected when a water heater flooded a 3rd floor unit and proceeded to saturate 2 units on each of the 3 floors.  What a mess!

The Condo association got the water flow stopped and began cleanup and extraction work in the common areas of the building, but it was up to each homeowner to contact a restoration company to get there and start the restoration process.  This is where the story above connects to this situation.

As I pulled up in my easily identifiable SERVPRO of South Fleming Island / North Bradford County truck, I noticed 3 other SERVPRO South Fleming Island / North Bradford County vehicles already on site, and four other SERVPRO associates, easily identifiable in their SERVPRO logoed shirts and khaki pants, beginning the removal and restoration process.  I also noticed about an hour to two hours later, that 3 other companies showed up to attend to some of the other units that were affected, as SERVPRO was called in for just 2 of the units.

The first company that arrived, came in a fairly beat up van, with a logo on it that was very difficult to see unless you got within about 15' of it.  The crew, 2 guys that got out, I immediately nicknamed the motley crew, as they looked like they had just stepped off of a mullet fishing boat or something.  Hats on backwards, non-descript clothing, nothing identifying who they worked for or represented.  Quite a lackluster 1st impression, to say the least.

The next group of 2 came in an easily identified vehicle, so at least I knew who they represented. But when they got out of the vehicle, one had a logoed shirt on, one did not.  One had on what looked to be standard uniform type pants, the other had blue jeans on and a shirt that he had probably gotten at a concert.  A little better 1st impression, but still not a complete package.

The last to pull up was a non-descript, older, white van.  An older gentleman stepped out in a white t-shirt and blue jeans, and proceeded to pull out 1 beat up, white air mover, that he was taking to the 1st floor condo that had water dripping from the ceiling lights, carpets that were saturated, and drywall that was visibly wet in most of the rooms.  I didn't have a favorable 1st impression, nor much confidence that this person was equipped for the job at hand.

So, what is the point of the story?  Well, why it might be possible that all 4 of the companies that showed up for the water emergency were capable of handling the situation they were confronted with, the level of confidence that the 4 different companies instilled in me, strictly based on my first impression, was vastly different!  Clearly, the package that SERVPRO presented, was the only one that looked complete; and the only one that inspired confidence in me as well as the homeowner that we were working with; as she was actively trying to get the other homeowners to reevaluate their choice in companies.

And why is this 1st impression (the package) so important?  Because it inspires confidence when a company pays attention to the way their vehicles look and the way their employees look.

It gives the customer confidence that if they are that concerned about their appearance, than more than likely they are just as concerned about their equipment, their training, their industry knowledge, their documentation, and ultimately, their ability to take care of the customer and provide them with peace of mind that this difficult situation will be handled properly.

So, the next time you are at the store and you notice a package slightly torn, or is taped up, and you move it out of the way to reach for the undamaged package, remember that 1st impressions mean a lot!

And if you ever find yourself in a situation where you need help with a water, fire, or mold emergency, remember the Ivory soap story, and make the right call: Call the professionals at SERVPRO of South Fleming Island / North Bradford County at 904-290-4040!

How Can I Protect My Family in the Event of a Fire?

1. Include Everyone in the Planning Process

Schedule a family meeting for the entire household, even small kids. Go over exits points, responsibilities—such as who will grab emergency kits—and alternatives in case your original plan falls through. Encourage your family to ask questions and make recommendations of their own. Once you’ve finalized a plan, print several copies and hand them out to each family member. Additionally, tape a copy in common areas, such as the kitchen and living room, where it’s highly visible by all.

2. Establish an Evacuation Route

There should be at least two established exits out of the home. Once outside, you and your family should follow the same route to a meeting place. The place you meet at should be in close proximity to your home, but not so close that you’re at risk of being injured by the fire. Make sure everyone knows this meeting place and how to get there.

3. Make Sure Emergency Numbers Are Accessible

If your kids have mobile devices, emergency numbers should be stored. Older kids should also be taught to memorize important numbers, including the fire department or a trusted neighbor or family member’s cellphone digits.

4. Practice Evacuating

In order for your plan to work, it’s essential to practice it at least a few times a year to make sure your family knows it well. Schedule practice sessions once every three or four months to coincide with testing your home’s fire alarms. This way, your children will know exactly how to take action and what to do in case a fire breaks out.

The tips above will help keep you and your family safe during a fire. The team at SERVPRO of South Fleming Island / North Bradford Countyprovides 24/7 fire restoration services using specialized techniques for smoke and odor removal, water damage, and any other hazards associated with a house fire. Visit them online for a complete breakdown of their fire restoration process and call (904) 290-4040 to discuss your fire plan.

SERVPRO Hurricane Advertisement Here to Help when natural disasters such as Hurricane's and Tropical Storm's hit! Call for a free estimate at 904-290-4040

Thunderstorms and hurricanes are prominent in Florida. Learning to take precautionary measures in the off-season is the best way to minimize the storm damage restoration needed later. Below are some ways you can safeguard your property from serious and costly destruction.

How to Minimize the Damage of a Thunderstorm

1. Prevent Water Leaks

Keep the interior of your home dry and leak-free by inspecting the condition of your roof and siding. Replace any damaged or missing shingles to prevent water from flowing into the attic and the need for storm damage restoration to clear out mold and mildew. Similarly, cracked or missing siding allows moisture to build up in the insulation and leak into the surrounding walls and flooring.

2. Ensure Water Can Flow Away

When rain falls on your home, it should flow down the roof into the gutters and be safely directed away from the property. If your gutters are dirty, damaged, or installed incorrectly, they can cause water to flow over the edge and pool at the base of the home, weakening the surrounding foundation. Over time, the water will begin to leak into the basement or crawlspace and result in costly storm damage restoration. Clear the gutters of leaves and other debris to allow the rainwater to safely flow through the system.

3. Stop Objects From Flying Into Your Home

Regularly, trim trees that hang over your home and remove any dead, broken, or diseased branches to prevent them from breaking off and damaging your property. Also, if you have a fence, check the posts a few times a year to ensure they are securely in place.

As for lawn furniture and decorations, stack them up in a corner or storage closet when not in use. When you know a storm is coming, place small sandbag weights where possible and place heavy outdoor covers over the furniture. You might also install a shrub wall to act as a wind barrier between these objects and your home.

Unfortunately, it’s not always possible to prevent all storm damage, but when it happens, know that you can turn to the trusted professionals at SERVPRO of South Fleming Island / North Bradford Countyin NE FL. Their highly trained technicians specialize in water extraction, storm damage restoration, and mold remediation. Call (904 290-4040 for 24-hour emergency service and visit their website for more information about their process.

Commercial cleaning... areas that might get overlooked

1/9/2021 (Permalink)

SERVPRO Cleaning above ceiling SERVPRO of South Fleming Island / North Bradford County is here to help! We go above and beyond to create happy customers! 904-290-4040

Commercial Cleaning – Don’t forget the Area Above the Ceiling!

It’s a common practice for many hotels, restaurants, and healthcare facilities to plan and budget for hiring a commercial cleaning company for quarterly, semi-annual, or annual cleaning of carpets, floors, and even equipment, to ensure that their guests, residents, patients, and even visiting family members will not only enjoy and provide favorable reviews about their experience, but also that they will not be exposed to any potential health hazards because of the proactive measures that were taken.

At times though, during this planning process, one area that can get overlooked, is above the drop ceiling in the kitchens, dietary, dining, and possibly even patient service areas.  There are several reasons these areas can be so critical.

  1. There is typically more heat in many of these areas, due to the equipment in use, as well as moisture from hot water and steam from dish machines, etc…
  2. Pests are attracted to these areas because of the smells, food and nesting materials they can find, and the darkness and lack of activity.

Contamination from rodent hairs, urine, and feces, is a concern and not to mention the damage they can do from gnawing on electrical wires and other parts of the structure.

And while it may be a common practice for these types of facilities to require their pest control providers to visually inspect the ceilings during their visits and to document any evidence of any of these issues, there is often a disconnect as to who should be responsible for cleaning up what is found.  Very often the documented issues that are found are not taken care of because the pest provider does not offer that type of cleanup service, and the facility itself does not have the manpower or expertise to effectively address these types of issues.

So, the area could remain contaminated, which could contribute to the possibility of several problems:

  1. Any maintenance that requires removal of any ceiling tiles could expose the workers and employees to possible health issues related to rodent contamination.
  2. Food safety could be compromised below the affected areas
  3. Rodent issues could develop to the point where customers or employees start to see live rodents, because the pest company was unable to determine if there was ongoing activity in the building because the original evidence that was documented was never cleaned up!

So, what does all of this have to do with SERVPRO?  Well, I’ll tell you…SERVPRO not only has a team of service professionals capable of quarterly, semi-annual, or annual cleaning of the floors, carpets, equipment, and even walls, but they also have their own products for cleaning and disinfecting the area above the ceiling. Not only that; they are experts at identifying water damage and mold, so while they are working above your ceiling, they can also determine if there are any areas where mold be growing, or water leaks may be evident.

This is a proactive service that while it may not be visible to your guests, residents, visiting family members, and even your own valued employees; it could be more valuable for the protection of “your brand” than any of the other services mentioned.

Why? Because no one wants to find out after the fact that…

  1. You have a rodent issue that is being seen by your customers or employees (and of course, posted on social media), that may have been prevented, because your pest technician noticed new evidence of pest activity, because the old evidence had been removed with the last cleaning.
  2. Mold can cause health effects.

So, while SERVPRO will not provide any type of rodent or pest control/elimination service, nor give any recommendations as to how to prevent such issues, we will proactively provide the cleaning of these critical areas, so that you can

  • Get more accurate reporting and better service from your pest program provider because you have provided a clean environment in a key area, where any new activity can be recognized and addressed.
  • Proactively monitor this critical area and minimize any damage that might be caused by water leaks; such as the development of mold, weakening of the structural integrity of the building due to excessive moisture, or even ceiling tile replacement due to water damage.

While it is true that many of the services SERVPRO offers are reactive in nature, and that our goal is to be, Faster to any Disaster and to make it "Like it never even happened," it’s also true that, “An Ounce of Prevention, is Worth a Pound of Cure!”  That is especially true when it comes to “Brand Protection.”

YOUR BRAND IS WORTH PROTECTING! Let SERVPRO help you make sure that nothing is overlooked… (904) 290-4040

Hurricane evacuation sign SERVPRO of South Fleming Island / North Bradford County is here to help when natural disaster strikes! Restoring homes to preloss condition since '15
Florida is a beautiful state that offers warm year-round temperatures, which is desirable for those who want to escape cold weather. Unfortunately, Florida’s location between the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean also makes it prone to severe weather like hurricanes and tropical storms, which can lead to massive water damages. Protect your property from natural disasters by using the following preparation guide.

A Guide to Preparing Your Home for Natural Disasters

Prepare Your Home

Power often goes out during severe storms, but when the electricity comes back on, the power surge can damage your appliances and devices. Before the storm hits, unplug all your electrical devices, including your television and microwave.

Another way to prepare your home for an impending storm is to stock on up food and store it correctly. Purchase plenty of water bottles and canned goods to hold you over for a few days in case stores don’t open immediately. Pack your freezer with ice to salvage your perishables in case the power goes out.

Pack a Bag

In some cases, inclement weather may be severe enough for you to leave your home. It’s always wise to keep a bag packed with essentials in case you have to go quickly. Everyone in your house should have their own bag, and they should include a change of clothes, toiletries, a first-aid kit, medications, a cell phone, and chargers. It’s also wise to have enough cash for a week’s worth of food and necessities in case power outages prevent credit or debit transactions.

Know Your Evacuation Plans

Before the storm arrives, pick two locations out of the danger zone where your family can meet after an evacuation. Ideally, one place should be close to home, and another one should be far away. Make sure everyone knows the locations and how to reach them. Each member of your household should have a list of emergency contacts, including an out-of-town contact person who can help relay information about your evacuation and well-being to others.

If your home sustained water damage from severe weather, the professionals at SERVPRO of South Fleming Island / North Bradford County will bring your home back to its original condition. Their highly trained and certified team provides cleanup and restoration services for clients throughout Clay and Bradford Counties of FL. In addition to water damage restoration, they also offer mold remediation, fire damage repairs, and emergency storm services. FAQ About Restaurant Fires

12/28/2020 (Permalink)

Fire Damage Restoration Advertisement SERVPRO of South Fleming Island / North Bradford County is your local fire / smoke / soot damage restoration professionals! (904) 290-4040

Fires cause a great deal of property damage to homes and businesses across the country every year. According to a 2017 report provided by the National Fire Protection Association, over a span of 4 years, more than 7,000 fires broke out annually in eating and drinking establishments. Unfortunately, this is one of the greatest risks you face as a restaurant owner. Below is a guide that will help you identify potential hazards, learn essential safety precautions, and understand proper fire restoration procedures.

What to Know Regarding Restaurant Fires

Why do most fires start?

Knowing what causes most restaurant fires will tell you where to focus your prevention efforts. Unsurprisingly, the largest percentage of fires in eating and drinking establishments are cooking-related. Deep fryers and ovens are especially dangerous due to a buildup of combustible oils, and flames can easily spread if they get into the exhaust system and ductwork. Gas leaks and electrical malfunctions, such as faulty wiring, ungrounded outlets, malfunctioning appliances, and worn out cords, also contribute to several fires.

What preventative measures can you take?

Install an automatic fire-suppression system in the kitchen and keep fire extinguishers in various locations around the restaurant. Have the exhaust system cleaned frequently to avoid grease buildup and wipe down cooking areas often. Schedule regular appliance inspections and keep an eye out for frayed cords, broken switch plates, and other hazards. Train your staff to use fire extinguishers correctly and store flammable liquids in well-ventilated spaces.

How should you prepare in the event of a fire?

It’s imperative that you’re prepared for a potential fire by having an action plan in place. You must be ready to shut off the gas and electrical power and have a designated evacuation route to get all staff and customers to safety without creating a more chaotic and dangerous situation. Make sure your employees know how to handle a fire by providing emergency training.

What do you do if there’s a fire in your restaurant?

In the aftermath of a fire, be sure to document all damage for your insurance company. Take photos and videos once it’s safe to go inside and begin the claims process. Then, contact a fire restoration company to begin the cleanup. They’ll have the appropriate equipment for addressing water damage, eliminating the lingering smoke smell, and renovating the property.

If your restaurant has been impacted by fire, trust SERVPRO of South Fleming Island / North Bradford County to get your business back up and running as quickly as possible. They provide prompt and effective fire restoration solutions that focus on minimizing damage and downtime. Backed by more than 50 years of industry experience, this locally-owned company is dedicated to helping home and business owners throughout NEFL successfully overcome unexpected disasters. 4 Reasons You May Need a Biohazard Cleanup Specialist

12/22/2020 (Permalink)

Professional biohazard cleanup / cleaning by SERVPRO of South Fleming Island Ever wondered who has to cleanup at a crime-scene or after a sewage spill? SERVPRO of South Fleming Island / North Bradford County can! 904-290-4040

Violent crimes, infectious disease infestations, and other traumatic situations can leave behind contaminants that may be hazardous to human health. Safely removing these requires expertise, personal protection equipment, and a variety of specialized tools capable of fully sanitizing the area. Below are a few circumstances that might benefit from a biohazard cleanup service.

What Situations May Require the Attention of a Biohazard Cleanup Team?

1. Violent Crime

Violent crimes and suicides are traumatic for loved ones that are left behind. These times can be stressful, especially for those who may be wondering how to handle the aftermath. Hiring a biohazard cleanup team can provide some much-needed relief.

Crime scenes are often contaminated with bodily fluids that can produce stains and foul odors or spread disease. Chemicals used by police during the investigation, such as luminol, can also be difficult to detect when restoring the area. Biohazard cleanup companies have the tools and experience to remove traces of the crime along with investigative residue.

2. An Unattended Death

Whether it’s due to an accident or illness, people can pass away in their own homes. Depending on the time elapsed before the deceased is discovered, pathogens, bacteria, and gases could have already permeated the room. These situations may also result in stained furniture and strong odors that are difficult to remove through traditional cleaning methods.

3. Dangerous Illnesses

Many diseases, such as salmonella and hepatitis, can survive for up to a week outside of the body. They can still cause infection during this time frame.

Standard cleaning methods can actually increase the risk by spreading the pathogens around the room. Biohazard removal specialists have the equipment to protect themselves from infection while ensuring the space is safe to enter.

4. Sewage Backups

A damaged drain field or sewer line can leave waste with nowhere to go but back into your house. Raw sewage can carry a variety of dangerous bacteria, such as E. coli, salmonella, and hepatitis. Effectively removing these pathogens, as well as the foul smells and stained carpets a sewer backup creates, requires specialized tools and extensive training.

Happy Holidays From SERVPRO of South Fleming Island / North Bradford County!!

Happy Holidays from SERVPRO Advertisement SERVPRO of South Fleming Island / North Bradford County wants to wish you a very happy holidays and a happy new year!! 904 290 4040 - 24/7/365

We want to wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy Holidays from SERVPRO of South Fleming Island / North Bradford County!! Here is a cute Christmas story, SERVPRO edition!

'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the shop

Not an item was clean, not even a mop

The Dehu's were stacked in the truck with care

In hopes that Rick I. would soon be there

The owners were nestled, snug in there SERVPRO threads,

While visions of convention checks, danced in their heads

The Yes ma'am in her office, and I in my cube

We had just settled down for a long binge of YouTube

When out of the office, there arose such a clatter

We sprang from our chairs to see what was the matter

Away to the WIP board, I flew, like a flash

Broke down the door, dropped my coffee, splash

The moon on the crest of a newly polished van,

The SERVPRO franchise finishes it's Emergency Ready Plan

When what to my wondering eyes did appear,

But a new commercial job to finish, before end of year

With a tall, slender driver, so lively and quick

I knew in this moment, this must be the Rick.

More rapid than Eagles, the ProMasters that came

He whistled and shouted for his team by name,

"Hey Dale, Steve, Susan and Sally, go get Mike, Chris, Alex, and Ally!

To the top of the doors to the top of the walls! Now, document, document, document all!"

As before each job they all worked to comply,

There are very strict procedures and programs, we must qualify,

So onto the job site, the team, they flew

With a truck full of products, and Rick I, too

And then in a twinkling, I heard in the drive, the workers behave like a buzzing bee hive

As I started the scope, and was turning around, into the structure Rick I went, with a bound

He was dressed all in green from his head to his foot,

and his clothes protected with PPE from ashes, and soot

A bundle of equipment, he had gathered from the truck,

He emerged determined to clean up this muck

His eyes, how they twinkled, through those protective goggles

His cheeks were rosy from the mask, protecting his tonsils

His branded attire was crisp to the look,

He and his team regained control, in which the fire had took

The test sponge he held tight in his hand, for the smoke in every crevasse, was crammed

He and the team worked fast and steady, to make sure the customer and business were ready

Their level of attention to detail was surprising in itself, they cleaned and wiped every book on the shelf

With a wink of his eye and a twist of his head, he gave the customer a sense that there was nothing to dread

He spoke not a word but went straight to work, he filled all the forms and he said, with a smook

"Get it all uploaded, quick and fast, we don't want audit to look at this last"

He sprang to the truck to give his team a signal, and away they all flew, to the orange house at old Seminole,

But I heard him exclaim, as the COI was gladdened: Don't forget, we make it "Like it never even happened."

Happy Holidays everyone! We're here to help in case there's an emergency - (904) 290-4040

3 Tips to Prevent Pet-Related Fire Damage

12/17/2020 (Permalink)

Dog inside house by fireplace SERVPRO of South Fleming Island is your local full service restoration company! Here to help make it "Like it never even happened." 904-290-4040

Pets love to explore, so think twice any time there’s an open flame in your home. Their curiosity can sometimes lead to accidents and the need for fire restoration services. Whether you’re cooking breakfast or lighting candles, take preventive steps to ensure you and your pet stay safe.

How to Prevent Pet-Related Fires

1. Use Flameless Candles When Possible

A cat or dog may easily tip over a lit candle and start a fire. Always purchase battery-powered, flameless options. Place them in jack-o’-lanterns on Halloween, buy an electric menorah for Hanukkah, or purchase scented options for your home. You’ll never have to worry about forgetting to blow out the flame before you go to bed.

2. Pet-Proof the Stove

Kitchens are the leading area for home fires, and many begin on the stove. Whether you have a gas or electric stove, never leave it unattended while using it. Pets may jump and knock a flammable item onto the burner or spill boiling water on themselves. Either remove the stove knobs when they aren’t in use or attach child-proof covers. These keep your pet from accidentally activating the burners and causing a fire.

3. Watch Electrical Wires

Electrical wires may look like a chew toy to pets. They can shock themselves when they break through the casing, and a spark could ignite flammable materials. String decorative lights out of reach, and cover floor cables with area rugs or furniture.

If you notice your pet inspecting electrical plugs or power strips, spray them with a no-chew spray. These bitter-tasting coatings will keep pets from biting twice. However, if your pet does cause any fire-related damage, immediately contact fire restoration services.

Professional Carpet Cleaning services by SERVPRO of South Fleming Island / North Bradford County!

12/7/2020 (Permalink)

Professional carpet cleaning services being performed SERVPRO of South Fleming / North Bradford County is here to help if you need professional carpet cleaning services, we're available at (904) 290-4040!

Many homeowners vacuum and spot-treat their carpeting to keep it looking and smelling great. However, getting a regular professional carpet cleaning offers more benefits than a simple surface sweep. Here is some information on the advantages of an expert appointment and how frequently to set up these sessions.

What Are the Benefits of Cleaning My Carpet?

Over time, pet fur, human hair, dander, skin cells, dirt, and food crumbs all become embedded in the carpet. While vacuuming will remove the top layer of debris, professional carpet cleaning teams like SERVPRO can get to the bottom of the fibers. This makes the carpet look better, while also improving the air quality by removing contaminants that can even irritate the respiratory system.

Cleaning teams use innovative technology such as bonnet cleaning for short pile carpet that doesn’t take moisture well. They may use dry cleaning for patterned flooring that may not retain coloration if exposed to hot water. SERVPRO also offers hot water extraction and shampoo to wash the fibers, mitigating caked-on dirt and stains, and deodorizing the flooring. All these methods will prevent the strands from sticking together and creating a matted feel, while also removing dirt and bits that could stretch the carpet out.

How Frequently Should I Schedule a Cleaning?

Clean homes with no pets, no smokers, and a few residents should schedule a cleaning once a year or every 18 months. Houses with larger families or several pets may need two annual cleanings to keep up with the extended traffic. Those who have frequent guests or parties will also benefit from extra carpet cleanings per year.

Individuals who have allergies to mold, pollen, or pets, and those who have respiratory problems like asthma or COPD, should ask their doctors about carpet cleaning. Getting this service more often can remove contaminants better, and make those affected more comfortable at home by mitigating irritants. They may need to set up these appointments more frequently to improve the indoor air quality and limit symptoms.

When you’re ready to schedule a professional carpet cleaning, contact SERVPRO of South Fleming Island / North Bradford County. The expert team has been in business since 1967, offering emergency restoration services, mold remediation and mitigation, fire and water damage restoration and cleanup, as well as commercial and residential carpet cleaning services. Call (904) 290-4040 or visit their website for information on their high-quality cleaning equipment.

The Do's And Don't of Fire Damage Repair

12/7/2020 (Permalink)

Laundry room that suffered from fire damage Fire damage? Call the experts at SERVPRO of South Fleming Island/ North Bradford County 904-290-4040

A fire in your home can be devastating. When a fire first takes place, its important to ensure the safety of your family by relocating to a safe place. After your family is safe, you can begin to think about how you are going to get your home back in order.

Fire damage repair professionals will help assess your home. It is natural to feel helpless in this situation, but for your safety follow the do's and don'ts below.

Do:

Take pictures of the damage
Having a visual record of the fire damage will come in handy when you file your insurance claim. Instead of trying to remember how everything looked after the fire, you will be able to refer back to the pictures that you took.

Call your insurance agent
Insurance claims can take months or even years to fully process, which means you will want to get the process started as soon as possible. The faster you know what the course of action is, the faster you can contact fire damage professionals to restore your home.

Wear gloves if you must enter the home
If you need to enter the home to gather your home's deed, insurance documents or other important paperwork, be sure to wear gloves. The soot on fabrics and ashes from the items can linger on your hands and lead to irritation if you touch your eyes, nose or mouth before having the chance to wash your hands.

Don't:

Enter Your home until it is safe
Your home may appear to be structurally sound, but there is no guarantee that damage has not been done somewhere that you cannot see. Do not enter the home until it has been inspected and deemed safe by fire damage professionals.

Try to clean the walls and floors yourself
Trying to clean soot off your walls and off of your carpets is more complicated than everyday cleaning supplies can handle.

Turn on any electronics
The hardware and wires of your computers, TVs, phones and other electronics may have suffered damage in the fire. The home's electrical system may be compromised as well. For your safety, consult with an electrician before turning on any electronics or light switches.

If your home has sustained severe fire damage, the team at SERVPRO of South Fleming Island/ North Bradford County will work hard to restore your home and belongings. In addition to fire restoration, SERVPRO of South Fleming Island/ North Bradford County also provides water and storm damage services, as well as mold mitigation. 12/1/2020 (Permalink)

Indoor Air cleaning SERVPRO equipment SERVPRO specializes in mold removal and mitigation! We're here to help with any problems with mold, may it be in your car, crawlspace, or basement!

When homeowners notice mold, they often rush to contact a mold remediation company to mitigate the issue. Mold grows in moist areas like the bathroom, kitchen, garage, and basement. Pets may be exposed to mold as they breathe in the air in these spaces or if they lick or brush up against it. Here is a guide to help you understand the potential consequences mold exposure has on your furry family members.

Understanding the Effects of Mold on Pets

What Are Mold Exposure Symptoms?

Mold can cause health effects for humans and animals.

What Should I Do to Remove It?

Never try to mitigate mold yourself. Unfortunately, most DIY options like treating the area with bleach can release spores into the air and worsen the problem for pets and people.

Instead, call a mold remediation team to address the area like SERVPRO. They will use safety gear and protocols to remove the spores from the air and surfaces without endangering your family. Once the mold remediation team is finished, your home will be safe for your furry friends.

How Can I Prevent Mold?

Reduce the likelihood of mold growth by installing ample ventilation in the bathroom and kitchen to pull moisture outside. Use dehumidifiers to minimize the water in the air to below 50% to make it difficult for the mold to grow. Frequently wash your pet’s food and water bowls and wipe down their kennels or cages, making sure that they dry quickly. Sanitize hard surfaces like flooring and tiles with a mixture of bleach and water and clean air ducts every two years to address any mold growing inside the piping.

If you live in or around Fleming Island, FL, and need mold remediation / removal, contact SERVPRO of South Fleming Island / North Bradford County. The cleanup and restoration specialists help residential and commercial clients safely remove mold to promote a healthier home or business. Call (904) 290-4040 or visit the website for information on their emergency cleaning services to restore your building for humans and pets alike.

4 Reasons Why You Should Not Remove Mold Yourself

11/30/2020 (Permalink)

SERVPRO air cleaning equipment SERVPRO has the equipment to properly mitigate mold damage. We have done mold remediation in commercial buildings, cars, RV's, crawl spaces, and more

Mold thrives in moist, dark areas. Mold is commonly found in the attic, bathroom, and basement of many homes. If you have recently discovered mold in your household, it is best to have it removed immediately to prevent your family from getting sick. It is not wise to perform the mold remediation yourself for a number of reasons,

1. You might put yourself at risk
Mold can cause health effects.

2. You Do Not Have the Right Equipment
Mold remediation requires the use of commercial-grade products that effectively kill harmful spores. You will also need a HEPA filter and purifier to remove all traces of mold from your indoor air supply. These products and equipment are expensive and require training to be able to use them properly.

3. You Might Worsen the Problem
Attempting to remove mold in an incorrect manner may actually spread spores throughout the home and make the problem worse. Mold Remediation specialists will quarantine the contaminated area before treating it, which prevents the possibility of the mold from spreading further.

4. You Could Miss a Spot
Mold tends to hide in small cracks and crevices where it is warm and dark. If you do not know where to look for it, you might miss a spot. Mold remediation specialists know where to look and will thoroughly get rid of all spores in your home. They will carefully look under titles in the bathroom, roof or walls of the basement.

Fire Safety Tips for the Holidays

11/25/2020 (Permalink)

While house fires can happen any time of year, the holiday season can introduce new hazards that can increase the risk of fire. From decorations to cooking mishaps, many dangers can arise as you prepare for the festivities. Although fire damage can often be repaired when house fires are controlled, here are a few preventative measures to take during the holidays.

Be Cautious in the Kitchen

According to the NFPA, cooking is the main cause of home fires and injuries, with Thanksgiving being the peak day for cooking-related fire emergencies.

  • Never leave cooking food unattended. Stay in the kitchen while frying, grilling, or broiling food
  • Check food regularly while cooking, use a timer as a reminder that the stove or oven is on
  • Keep anything flammable like potholders, oven mitts, wooden utensils, paper or plastic bags, food packaging, and towels away from the stove, oven, or other appliances that generate heat.

Use Candles Safely

Fires caused by candles peak in December. While these decorations can add ambiance and a pleasant aroma to your home, they also present serious fire risks.

  • Keep burning candles in a safe space where pets and children can’t knock them over.
  • Set a timer on your phone to remember when to blow them out.
  • Battery-operated flameless candles are safer alternatives that still produce a warm, atmospheric glow.

Follow Instructions With Lights & Decorations

Whether you’re stringing lights inside or outside your home, follow instructions carefully.

  • Avoid stringing more than three strands together at once so you don't overwhelm your outlet and cause electrical fires.
  • only use outdoor lights outside your home, as these withstand the elements better than lights designed for indoor use.

You can also prevent fire damage by practicing tree safety. While Christmas tree fires are rare, minimize the risk by keeping your tree watered and disposing of it promptly after the holidays.

If your home sustains fire damage, call SERVPRO of South Fleming Island/ North Bradford County at 904-209-4040 and we will make it "Like it never even happened.

3 Tips On Protecting Your Home From Water Damage

11/5/2020 (Permalink)

Gutters overflowing with rain water Improper maintenance of your home can cause a headache down the road! Follow these tips on how to avoid having water damage your property.

Water damage and mold cost American homeowners and insurance companies more than $2.5 billion every year. It is very common, but it doesn’t have to be. Homeowners have several easy steps they can take to protect themselves and their property from leaks and flooding. Below are some of the most effective.

What Are Some Ways to Guard Your Home Against Water Damage?

1. Waterproof the Basement

Waterproofing or concrete sealing is a process in which a protective coating is applied to concrete slabs and cinder blocks to make it less porous. It keeps moisture from seeping into your living space from outdoors. This should prevent most water damage from occurring, but also consider installing a sump pump to remove any moisture that does make it inside, including from pipe leaks and drain backups.

2. Clean Your Gutters

Rain gutters clog easily by collecting leaves, twigs, dirt, and other organic debris. When this happens, the troughs overflow instead of directing rainwater away from the house. This results in puddling around the foundation, through which moisture can seep, enter your lowest level, and damage furniture, carpeting, drywall, and other items you keep there. To prevent overflows, clean the troughs and downspouts of your gutter system twice a year: once in spring and once in fall.

3. Monitor Water Bills and Use

Hidden leaks can cause untold amounts of damage before you even know they exist. Therefore, it's a good idea to monitor your water bills and usage statements. If your bill and water usage should increase sharply without explanation, it could indicate a leak in your plumbing system. Contact a plumber for an inspection, or you may soon notice mold growth, musty smells, stains in your drywall, peeling wallpaper, and other signs of water damage.

If your home has suffered water damage, contact SERVPRO of South Fleming Island / North Bradford County in Florida. They serve Clay and Bradford County and the surrounding areas, specializing in water extraction, biohazard cleanup, mold remediation, fire and storm damage remediation, and other emergency cleaning services. 3 ways to avoid fire hazards this Halloween

10/30/2020 (Permalink)

SERVPRO Halloween themed Advertisement SERVPRO of South Fleming Island / North Bradford County is here to help! Available 24/7 365 days a year, we can be reached at (904) 290-4040!

Halloween is almost here, bringing ghosts and ghouls to your doorstep, and allowing you to deck your house out in spooky decorations. While this is the perfect time to decorate your home, it’s important to use safe decoration practices to prevent the need for fire restoration services. Since two out of five Halloween fires occur because of improperly placed decorations, it’s best to ensure you avoid fire restoration by utilizing the following simple tips.

How to Prevent Halloween Fires

1. Skip Open Flames

Whether you’ve placed candles in pumpkins or paper-bag lanterns, open flames pose a significant risk. Unsupervised lit candles can easily be accidentally knocked over. The flames can spread fast, particularly if they’re near flammable items.

Instead, light up your yard and decorations the safe way using alternative methods, such as glow sticks or battery-operated candles. Always teach young trick-or-treaters to be cognizant of any open flames when collecting candy by encouraging them to stay away from the flames.

2. Use Dried Decorations Sparingly

While open flames pose a high threat, there are many other heat sources that can also start fires, particularly if they are surrounded by dried out decorations. Popular fall items like dried cornstalks, hay, flowers, and crepe paper are flammable and can catch fire when placed too closely to high-wattage light bulbs or portable heaters.

Make sure if you use any dried Halloween decorations that they are placed away from any heat source and use them sparingly to prevent accidents.

3. Don’t Block Doorways

Halloween fires can also occur in your home if you decorate the interior. While you may be tempted to decorate doorframes using fake cobwebs and paper streamers, this can actually make it more difficult to exit the home if a fire does break out.

Keep obstructive decorations to inner walls and out of hallways, windows, and doorways, leaving an open path to exit the home in the event of a fire.

If you’ve experienced the damage fires can cause and want a reliable professional to help you with the fire restoration process, contact SERVPRO of South Fleming Island / North Bradford County. October was a great month for us at SERVPRO of South Fleming Island / North Bradford County in regards to customer testimonials!

Here are some of our testimonials from this month (so far)!

  1. "Outstanding customer service! From the calls made to the office to the on-site crews that have been working so hard on my home that suffered from fire damage. The men working at my home have been extremely friendly and professional, they called me with an ETA every morning since they have started. Top-notch customer service overall. Thanks SERVPRO" - Nicole F.

  2. "Great service! Fast, prompt, professional, courteous, and friendly. I highly recommend this SERVPRO to anyone I know who suffers from flood damage. Thanks again for the hard work." - Matthew C.
  3. "If ever there were a company that deserved MORE than 5 stars, this would be it! I have been flooded 4 times in 4 years with 3 hurricanes and most recently with the Nor'Easter. I might be the most skeptical consumer out there after being taken advantage of by SO many businesses and people throughout these ongoing traumas. When I met David for my most recent flooding, I was initially quite wary because I believed this franchise of SERVPRO would be just more of the same that I have dealt with over these past years...... I cannot even express how shocked I was to find I was SO SO SO wrong. David and his crew treated me like family! This truly is a big name company with a small town loyalty and COMMUNITY at heart!!!! I am so grateful to have been referred to them by another very happy customer, and will forever spread the word at what an outstanding company they are. THIS SERVPRO has an owner and crew that are not only professionals and highly skilled at their trade of saving homes, but they are kind, compassionate, and full of integrity. What a rarity!!!! THANK YOU to everyone at this company for restoring my faith (and my home)!!!" - Jill N.

Fire Safety tips for your commercial building!

9/2/2020 (Permalink)

Fire extinguisher hanging on wall SERVPRO of South Fleming Island/North Bradford County is here to help with Fire damage restoration and cleanup! (904) 290-4040 Call for free estimate!

Every office building has some degree of fire risk, no matter what type of business occupies the space or the size of the staff. Whether you have a small office with a smaller sized staff, or you're in a commercial building with hundreds of employees, taking some preventive fire safety measures in your office will protect your employees and your business’s assets. These precautions can help save lives and dramatically reduce the amount of fire restoration and smoke and soot removal and cleanup that is required after an emergency.

How to Practice Fire Safety in the Office

1. Install Fire Extinguishers

Fire codes require businesses to install fire extinguishers in their office buildings. Different industries and locations have different guidelines, so check the regulations for your business to ensure you are following these standards.

Offices should generally be equipped with water and foam extinguishers that are stored no more than 75 feet apart. Kitchens should have a Class K rated extinguisher. Extinguishers should be easily visible, with the top no more than 5 feet from the ground.

2. Educate Your Team

Touch base with your staff every six months about fire prevention and safety. For example, highlight the dangers of smoking close to the building or discarding still-lit cigarette butts into flammable materials such as trash bins or dry leaves. Show your employees the safe routes out of the building, the locations of pull alarms, and how to use the extinguishers.

3. Use Fireproof Storage

If the unthinkable does happen and a fire burns your building to the ground, you don’t want all of your business’s files and data to be lost. Install fireproof safes and filing cabinets to protect important files. When possible, store digital information securely in the cloud or on off-site servers. Fire restoration can restore your building, but it is this preventive measure that will protect your data.

If disaster does occur, the fire restoration team at SERVPRO of South Fleming Island / North Bradford County is here to help. This locally owned and operated business has highly trained technicians and state-of-the-art equipment for efficient fire damage repair and cleanup for any sized building complex. They will handle every aspect of your restoration, from water damage that put out the fire, to adding the finishing touches to your restored building. Learn more online or by calling (904) 290-4040.

3 helpful tips for creating a fire evacuation plan!

SERVPRO South Fleming Island is full of fire and water damage restoration experts SERVPRO of South Fleming Island is full of fire and water damage restoration experts! (904) 290-4040 24/7/365

From evacuating to dialing 9-1-1, a contingency plan will help reduce the amount of fire restoration work needed in the aftermath. We've put together 3 helpful tips for you if you suffer fire damage this summer.

3 Elements of a Strong Fire Escape Plan for an Office

1. Designate Roles

The first step is to assign different roles in the fire response plan. First, name a person who is going to be in charge. Then, have them designate roles for remaining personnel. (If applicable)

There should be someone to alert the fire department (plus a fire restoration crew), someone to sound the alarm system, and others to direct employees out of the building. When everybody knows their role, the evacuation process will go much smoother than without having one.

2. Label Routes

The next step is the important one. It’s crucial to establish the fastest and safest routes out of the building. Make sure everyone is aware of the contingency plan! Nobody plans on having a disaster, but we strongly suggest everyone has a plan.

Create multiple routes for exiting the building, in addition, make sure these routes are readily available to everyone, they should be labeled clearly throughout the entire building!

3. Rehearse

Conduct regular fire drills, this is a perfect way to test your contingency plan and make adjustments if necessary. It also allows others to rehearse their roles regarding the contingency plan.

If your interested in having us create a professional contingency plan for you, give us a call today at (904) 290-4040 and ask about our ERP, Emergency Ready Program! We will create an emergency, or contingency plan, for you. By documenting all the exit routes, building structure, location of all the shut-off valves to the water, power, etc; we will know what plan of action to take before a disaster even happens.

If you need assistance with fire damage restoration/soot and smoke damage cleanup; look no further than SERVPRO of South Fleming Island / North Bradford County! They are ready to respond to emergencies 24/7!

Debris-filled gutters SERVPRO South Fleming Island / North Bradford County is here to help 24/7/365!! When water, fire, or mold damage strikes, we strike back! 904 290-4040

Summer is almost here and that means storms are just around the corner. While all that rain may help cool things off, it can put your home at risk for water damage. While an experienced storm damage restoration team will be able to fix most problems caused by harsh weather, it’s best if you can avoid the damage in the first place. Here are a few simple ways to prevent storm damage and subsequent issues from doing long-term harm to your house.

3 Ways to Prevent Storm-Related Water Damage

1. Prune Your Trees

Whether it’s a hurricane or tropical storm that batters the coast, you can always count on high winds causing a lot of problems. One of the most common causes of leaks and roof damage is due to falling limbs, but there’s a simple way to prevent this problem. Before the first storm hits, have your trees professionally pruned and remove any dead or low-hanging limbs. This will reduce the risk of a falling limb damaging the roof or siding.

2. Clean Out Your Gutters

If your gutters are clogged, runoff from the roof collects between the gutters and the home’s siding. Over time, this can lead to mold and mildew growth in the walls as well as weaken the integrity of your roof, making leaks more frequent. Have the gutters cleaned and inspected for damage at least once in the spring and again before winter. This way, you’ll never have to worry about backed up gutters and all excess water can flow off the roof and away from the home easily.

3. Fix Existing Roof Damage

Anytime the materials of the roof are compromised or damaged, they can allow water to seep inside the attic. Walk around the exterior of the home and give the roof a quick visual inspection. If you see any shingles or roofing material that is peeling up, missing, or cracked, have a roofing contractor come make the necessary repairs. This will help protect the home during periods of heavy rainfall and will reduce the number and frequency of leaks you see in the house.

A Guide to Water Damage Extraction Process

6/19/2020 (Permalink)

Water extraction in progress Call your local cleanup and restoration experts water, fire, mold damage and more! (904) 290-4040!!

If your home has extensive moisture damage, you may need professional water extraction. This critical service can remove water from flooded areas, such as your attic, and prevent mold growth by removing moisture. Here is some insight into the extraction process so you know what to expect if you have flooding issues.

What Is This Process Like?

When buildings flood with water or liquid waste, restoration crews use extraction techniques to remove the fluid quickly. Extraction often involves suction to vacuum up the liquid followed by other drying techniques to remove moisture from every material in the home, from flooring to walls.

How Does It Work?

First, the water extraction company will locate and stop the source of the leak or waste. Then, they’ll inspect the area looking for safety hazards like electricity and asbestos before making a customized restoration plan. They’ll bring specialized machines and safety equipment such as hazardous materials suits to protect their team while restoring the home.

Many companies use submersible pumps to reach beneath the surface of the water or waste and remove most of the standing liquid. Then, they use industrial vacuums to go over every inch of flooring and remove fluid that is buried in the carpets. These professionals also use cleaning methods with steam and chemicals to kill bacteria that may make your family ill, like salmonella and E. Coli.

Finally, they’ll bring in industrial fans and dehumidifiers to suck moisture out of the air. The contractors will use innovative instruments to assess moisture levels in the building materials to ensure the floor, walls, and ceilings have normal humidity levels, and the house is safe to inhabit.

What Are Its Benefits?

Mold can grow 24 hours after a flood, so it's important to be prompt in calling us to get us on-site ASAP.

Standing water can soak through the walls, weaken the flooring, destroy carpets, and create high humidity levels, so it’s essential to call water remediation experts immediately to save your house.

If you need water extraction due to a leak or storm damage, contact SERVPRO of South Fleming Island / North Bradford County in Fleming Island, FL. The specialty cleaner tackles big and small jobs thanks to its top-quality tools and extensive preservation and safety training. Call the water extraction and storm damage experts at (904) 290-4040 or visit them online for information on their services, including emergency cleaning, fire damage repair, and mold remediation.

Summer is coming...

5/8/2020 (Permalink)

SERVPRO fire damage advertisement Fire Damage? 904-290-4040!!

As summer approaches, it's time to consider safety precautions for extreme heat in the coming months. Heat affects everyone, but specifically the young, elderly, sick and overweight. Urban areas also have a greater chance of being negatively affected by extreme heat due to the "heat island effect."

According to the EPA, "the sun can heat dry, exposed urban surfaces, such as roofs and pavement, to temperatures 50-90 Degrees hotter than the air, while shaded or moist surfaces- often in more rural surroundings- remain close to air temperatures." These surface heat islands are strongest during the day when the sun is shining, while the atmospheric heat islands are more likely after sunset "due to the slow release of heat from urban infrastructure."

During extreme heat waves, stay inside in your air condition if possible. Be sure to check on anyone outside such as children or pets frequently. Stay hydrated and limit alcohol and caffeine intake. If you work outdoors or need to go outdoors during a heat wave, wear loose-fitting, light-colored clothing and be sure to apply sunscreen!

Pay attention to signs of heat exhaustion, pay attention to these for yourself and others. Signs of heat exhaustion are: heavy sweating, weakness, cold or pale skin, nausea or vomiting, and fainting, according to the CDC.

Extreme heat is a serious danger. For more information on preparedness and prevention, visit cdc.gov.

What to do if you find mold, before help (us) arrives!

4/10/2020 (Permalink)

Mold mitigation equipment We are specialists in mold remediation and mitigation services!!

Have you found mold in your home recently? It can damage your property value and put your health at risk, so it’s obviously important to eliminate it ASAP. Schedule remediation with a reputable mold remediation company today to get the process started. Here are several steps to get your home ready for us to come and professionally remove the mold(s).

Remove Your Possessions

The first step you have to take is to remove any items from the mold-infested area. Sort through what to save and what to toss out; then, thoroughly clean the surfaces of any items you are keeping. Afterwards, put them in a safe place until all the mold is removed.

Block Off the Area

It’s important to isolate the mold-ridden area to prevent it from spreading throughout the property. Tape plastic sheets over the air vents and doorways near the infested space until a mold remediation company can come to your home and set up professional containment's. This will prevent the mold from seeping into air vents and spreading.

Do NOT Ventilate!!

While opening up windows or turning on fans near the moldy space might seem like a good idea, it can actually do more harm than good! Remember that ventilation can cause the mold spores to spread!

Leave the Area Alone

Mold can look quite ugly, so you may be tempted to remove some of it off with bleach or other cleaning products. Doing this, however, may actually cause the mold spores to become airborne and move to other areas of your home. To prevent further issues, avoid touching the area and allow the mold remediation experts to take care of everything from beginning to end.

By following these tips, you can successfully get your home ready for mold remediation. SERVPRO of South Fleming Island / North Bradford County in Florida specializes in cleanup and restoration services for residential and commercial properties, including mold removal, water damage restoration, and fire damage repairs. The technicians are trained at SERVPRO’s corporate training facility and ready to deal with any issues. For more information, call them at (904)-290-4040!!

Disasters happen every single day. They can strike without warning to anybody, anywhere, and at any time. The initial devastation of a flood, fire, or storm can be overwhelming. But there are lingering effects, too, such as water damage, mold, or soot contamination. That’s why emergency cleaning services are so essential after a disaster.

Floods and water damage can leave your place a mess; however, tidying things up is only part of the problem. To avoid mold damage—caused by excessive moisture exposure—it is essential to have your place cleaned by a team of professionals.

Mold contamination is certain following water damage, though it can go undetected for years. It poses significant health risks to your family, as well as a long-term hazard to your property and its value. Three reasons to hire a carpet cleaning professional for water damage removal

4/10/2020 (Permalink)

Male performing water damage removal (904) 290-4040 - 24/7!!!

Flood and water damage can quickly ruin carpeting, and while there are home remedies, most only slow the problem rather than fixing it. To truly resolve the issue, it’s best to bring in a professional. An expert carpet cleaning company will address water-related issues that rental and store-bought tools simply can’t. They will not only return your carpet to its original form but also ensure that it stays there. If you’ve suffered flood or water damage, consider the benefits of a professional carpet cleaning below.

3 Reasons to Hire a Professional Carpet Cleaning Service

1. Experience

Water removal isn’t an easy process. It requires care and attention to ensure that the padding below carpet, as well as the flooring, is also fixed. It’s more than just cleaning the fibers, which is why you should always turn to experienced professionals. They work in several different scenarios and tackle a variety of issues, ensuring they have the knowledge to complete the job successfully.

2. Equipment

Renting professional carpet cleaning equipment can cost hundreds of dollars, and in many cases, it isn’t effective because homeowners don’t know how to properly use it. Professionals bring industry-leading equipment with them to the job and know how to use it safely and effectively to achieve the best results.

3. Mold Prevention

Clean carpets aren’t the end of the problem. In many cases, water that seeps through can later cause mold to form. Letting it go can have costly health and financial consequences. A professional carpet cleaning service will know how to safely handle existing mold and prevent it from growing in the future.

How to cope with mold with the help of your local SERVPRO!

Some companies use the threat of mold as a scare tactic, often taking advantage of clients who are in a vulnerable position. Mold inspections can be expensive and time consuming, often requiring several days for test results to be returned, but there is no need to panic. We're here to help! The first thing to know about mold is that it can almost always be avoided. When a flood occurs in your residence or business, you need to act as fast as possible. The quicker you respond to the flood, the less likely you are to have a mold problem.

CALL A PROFESSIONAL! Treating water damage is a science, and should be left to experts (like us) who are licensed, insured, and highly trained. Often times, people are hesitant to spend the money on a professional restoration company, but in the long-run it will save you a lot of money.

Improper treatment leads to long term damage, which may* cause mold and other expensive problems. Second, mold testing and mold treatment must be performed by separate companies. If a company finds mold during an inspection, they must hire another company to treat the mold! Failure to do so is a conflict of interest! If you fear that you may have mold from a preexisting problem, contact us here at SERVPRO of South Fleming Island / North Bradford County. We will arrange for a licensed inspector from another company to perform a full inspection, and then we will perform services to remove the mold. After our services are performed, another inspection will be performed to ensure perfection. We ALWAYS guarantee our work! Don't let the fear of mold keep you up at night. Call (904) 290-4040!!

When it comes to cleaning up an area in the aftermath of a traumatic event, it’s likely a task you wouldn’t even know where to begin tackling. The local company specializes in many types of emergency cleaning services and helps to reduce the risk of health hazards and property damage. Having them clean up the scene in a timely and efficient manner benefits their clients in the following ways:

  • Heath Safety: Being exposed to this kind of hazardous condition can result in serious health problems if not handled correctly. Bodily fluids have the potential to pass on a variety of diseases to someone who isn’t trained in their proper disposal.
  • Appropriate Materials & Equipment: Professional biohazard cleanup services utilize the right kind of cleaning materials and equipment to make certain the scene is thoroughly decontaminated. It takes higher strength cleaning products to ensure all hazards have been removed.
  • Relieve The Burden: Biohazard cleanup situations not only pose a threat for physical damages, but there is the emotional aspect to consider as well. Cleaning up after a loved one means reliving the trauma over and over, which no one should have to go through.

Whatever the circumstances that led to the need for biohazard cleanup, it’s imperative that a professional be called to take on the job as quickly as possible. Contact SERVPRO of South Fleming Island / North Bradford County at (904) 290-4040!!!
